Diagnostic Essay on Historical Events that One Could Change

If there were one event in history that I was fortunate enough to be able to change, it would be the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. Not only did many innocent people die on that day due to terrorism, but also people are still dying to this day. The affects of that event on are nation are still felt ten years after the actual attacks occurred. Many families have lost and are still losing loved ones who are sacrificing themselves for the greater good of fighting terrorism across the globe. September 11th was single handedly the largest foreign attack on U.S. soil. The series of catastrophic events that occurred on that dreadful day sparked a, later to be called the “War on Terror”. The only thing that could be received as a positive out of this situation would be that it unites citizens across the nation as one and our since of nationalism sky- rocketed to the highest it has ever been. On that note it is still known as the worst day in American history, and that’s why it would be better off if it never were to happen. Terrorism and terrorist attacks could have been avoided by trying to create democracy in places where terrorism takes priority over the government. The U.S. has been attempting to intervene with the government in terrorist nations for the past ten years, but I feel like if they started the fight before these attacks ever happened it could have prevented much of the devastation that occurred on September 11th and the years following. Another solution that is much easier and cost effective would have been to increase our security in airports and airlines. With a heightened sense of national security the attacks would have never mad it through security thus never allowing 9/11 to ever happen. With just a slight increase in awareness in places of mass transportation, millions of Americans and their families could have avoided losing family members and loved ones.
