A baby’s skin is very delicate. The first thing that comes in contact with the baby’s skin is a diaper and unfortunately, the first rash that your baby might experience is a DIAPER RASH. They are a boon and a curse. Diapers are a wonderful invention for babies and mommies, especially when you’re on the move. But let’s face it, whenever you make your baby wear a diaper, we get scared and are always on the lookout to avoid diaper rashes. In spite of being extremely careful, your baby may still suffer from a diaper rash. I had heard various horror stories from moms about diaper rashes and kids’ suffering but I always hoped it won’t happen to my child. Well, I learnt it the hard way. My child’s skin did not like any brand of diapers and the rashes kept recurring. I could see red swollen bumpy patches on the skin. In worst cases, the rash would spread to areas around the diaper area …show more content…
and cause extreme discomfort to my delicate little one.
I checked out the causes of diaper rashes to see how I could avoid them from scarring my baby’s skin:
• Friction - The most common cause of a diaper rash is friction between the skin and diaper. Being in a wet diaper for too long can also lead to a diaper rash.
• Skin Infections - Bacterial and yeast infections can are responsible for diaper rashes.
• Allergies - At times, children get an allergic reaction to the diaper itself and this causes rashes.
• Diarrhea - A baby suffering from diarrhea is more likely to suffer from diaper rashes.
• Antibiotics - A very uncommon cause of diaper rashes is antibiotics taken by a breastfeeding mother. The child can get rashes if the mother is taking too many medications.
• Laundry Detergents - Babies may also get rashes from cloth diapers. The cause of this is the material of the cloth diaper and the detergent that is used to wash it. Some detergents don’t get washed away very easily and when the skin comes in contact with the chemical ingredients of detergents, it gets rashes.
I switched to various diaper brands, changed my laundry detergent, put him off diapers completely but cloth diapers were also causing the same problem. I tried every cream available in the market but nothing worked. I also noticed that a few creams accentuated the problem. I checked with my pediatrician only to find out that some creams contained certain ingredients that were not safe for baby’s skin. I even tried home remedies such as coconut oil but the intensity of the rash was such that it just won’t be soothed by anything.
That’s when my pediatrician told me that there are several organic baby skin care brands overseas but only one such brand in India.
He told me about Mamaearth, which is a recent entrant in the market of baby products and its diaper rash cream is composed of organic ingredients. He informed me that a diaper rash cream should hydrate the skin and also possess healing properties and this cream was exactly that.
With much hesitation, I went ahead with it and to my surprise; it showed marked results in just 4 days. After a week, I could see the rash completely fade away and so, this has become an essential part of my diaper changing regime. Every time my baby poops or passes urine, I use a wet wipe to pat clean the diaper area. I allow some air to pass so that it is dry. After this I apply the Mamaearth diaper rash cream on the diaper area and it locks in the moisture.
I wanted to share this very important information with all my fellow moms so that no other baby has to suffer from painful diaper rashes. After all, no mother can see her baby in
pain!
