Diary Entry Of Elie Wiesel Diary
Journal Entry #9 Writing from the Point of View of Idek
Dear Diary, I am a Kapo, a prisoner for the police to watch the Jews. Not many of the Jews know that I am a police for the Nazis’ but they will learn if they underestimate. We took in more Jews today. I supplied Elie a job and if he doesn’t do it well or does anything wrong, then he or other Jews will regret it. I am mad at Elie now, I was in a private room with a girl and he decided to skip his job to spy on me. My punishment for him was to have him get beaten with a whip for what he had seen and told him he needs to forget what had happened that day. I have to make sure that all Jews follow their job or they will be punished or even something worse. My job since I have started was to

I began to look around. Is that a gold tooth I see? I walked over to Eliezer and asked him for the gold tooth. He wouldn’t give it to me, even though Jews aren't supposed to have anything reliable or expensive. Elie isn’t strong enough to fight back so it’s easy to bully him with many things to let me get the tooth.I began to take a different approach and told his father that I would take away his bread ration. I begged with many things that would torture him. What else should I do to break him? The more I can torture his father the more he’ll want to stop it from happening. It’s the best to torture and gets the things that I want because that’s what every other guard is doing. Being able to be free and not tortured in a camp is the amazing especially since my job is to be cruel to all. In my eyes, I see the Jews different because of what they believe and everyone knows that if you are one you have to be at a concentration camp. I wonder who else is hiding their prized possessions. What can I do to get them? Should I try to use their emotions to get the possession? Demanding for items is the

In using my Notice and Note strategies, I found that my analysis of the book, Night by Elie Wiesel to be far more in depth than it would have been had I done the contrary. For instance, when applying the method of ‘Again and Again’ I realized that the phrase, “‘Fire, over there! The fire! Listen to me!’” (Wiesel 24) sequentially appeared in chapter two on pages 24 through 28. The phrase foreshadowed the revealing of the crematoriums on the camp Auschwitz. The phrase made me ponder whether or not the woman saying it was just mad or if at some time during the story she would be useful, but as it turned out she was actually truthful and no one believed her in time to escape and avoid the crematorium flames. With utilizing Notice and Note once in a while I’ve come to find that I’ll believe a word or phrase foreshadows or means something entirely different to what it actually comes to be. A simple example would be when I again was exercising the use of ‘Again and Again’ I continuously spotted, “Kabbalah,” (Wiesel 3). I believed the word had a strong significance in the story and would lead to some sort of event later on, however my conclusion was wrong and Kabbalah is just a term for the Jewish mysticism and mystical thought.…

When you and your family are all forced into a death camp, separated, and treated as subhuman, you tend to protect the only ones you love enough to risk your life for. In the camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau, one teenager and his father find themselves in exactly that dilemma, starving and with only each other to rely on. Elie Wiesel, a child thrown into these camps with his father, miraculously survived and went on to write about his experiences and struggles, most notably in his memoir Night. This book shows what really happened behind the scenes of Nazi Germany during World War 2, things that would not be revealed for years to come. And more specifically, it shows how Elie's relationships to his father and to the…

Everyone deserves the right to live in freedom and safety. History provides many chief examples of the violation of these human rights, such as the Holocaust. The murdering of over 6 million people of the Jewish religion and the extreme mistreatment of them in concentration camps clearly shows these violations. Many of the Jews that survived the dreadful concentration camps, retell their stories through books and interviews. Elie Wiesel, a Buna concentration camp survivor, reveals the violation of his human rights through the literary devices of imagery, conflict, symbolism along with understatement. Wiesel uses these literary devices to emphasize the theme that a prisoner must remain optimistic to overcome oppression in his book, “Night”.…

In his memoir, Night, Elie Wiesel showed that the Jewish people of Wiesel's hometown, Sighet, held on to illusions that gave them a false sense of hope and safety before their arrival at Birkenau. An example of this is when foreign Jews were expelled from Sighet crying, but the people of Sighet rumored that the deportees “were in Galicia, working” (6) and “were content with their fate” (6). When Moishe the Beadle, one of the deportees, managed to escape and come back he informed the people of the horrific fate the foreign Jews had endured under captivity of the Gestapo, German secret state police, who “shot [the] prisoners” (6), but people wrongfully concluded that “he had gone mad” (7). The Jews of Sighet also thought that “Hitler [would] not be…

Genocide, a word that has affected millions yet it’s a crime that has never been committed. Millions have been killed due to a belief that they are subordinate as a group, yet genocide has not ever been declared. With over 10 million dead, where are the survivors? What compelled them to persevere and strive towards survival? Well, Elie Wiesel lived to tell the story. Elie tells about his struggles in his novel called Night. He speaks upon what had happened to him and his family in the holocaust, and what ultimately led him to living through the holocaust. The reason he is alive today and was able to tell the story, is because of his persistence to live, his mental strength to keep going, and his overall grit to become one of the historic survivors that he is today.…
