This essay was intended to show us the importance of water and how quickly we can run out of it. Didion wanted to show us that water is an everyday item that most people, myself included take for granted amongst many other things.

For example, water-related natural disaster such as tsunami demonstrates that the chaos produced by flood can be as devastating as the inability to provide water during drought.
Didion wrote, “The only natural force over which we have any control . . . and that only recently,” (Didion, page 2) I do not think we have control over water, even though we have all those wonderful technologies to help us control water, we’re still not there yet. We cannot control how much it’s going to rain, however, there are a lot of things we can do to save water. The spate of catastrophic environmental events that have transpired in recent memory seem to suggest that human control over water is nominal at best, illusory at worst.
After reading this essay, I came to the conclusion that we should pay more care to how we use water because it’s a precious resource, one that may seem plentiful to many of us, but it’s rare enough in some areas of the world. Let us not take water for granted, let us preserve it before it’s too
