Diegetic Moment Affect Sam
the happiness that he was longing for finally resurfacing to him when he saw his parent dancing and laughing together. The directors use diegetic sound and lighting to show how important this particular moment will affect Sam. From the song lyrics
"Something,s lost, but something,s gained, in living, every day,". All around Sam, it is dark, and the only face is illuminated watching his parents caught up in the moment and smiling at each other.

During the American Revolution Soldiers weren’t the only ones who were at high risk of death. For example in the small town of Redding, Connecticut there was a variety of different opinions on war. Unlike like most happy stories and fairytales there was no good side, there might have been a good cause but no side was considered innocent. The Patriots were killing someone for a crime they did or looked like they were committing even if they were fighting for their side. The British were exaggerating situations to get a chance to execute a fellow loyalist or Patriot. In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by, James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier,…

It is about Sam Meeker, a young man who wants to enlist into the Rebel army and his younger brother Tom, who admires Sam for his bravery and courage. Both of their parents were completely against his decision to fight for the rebels, and many of their neighbors and town citizens were against the rebels. I don’t wanna burn in the sun fo anotha day!” Sam spent day in and day out with his family working in the fields in a desperate attempt to salvage crops for cash. In a family of ten, food was demanded, sought, and earned on a monotonous daily basis and any extra cash was saved to buy clothes for the younger children. Sam, only six years old, faced the same fate that many other black children faced growing up in the brutal South. The mood of the poem began as a sad tale, but it ended on an ironic, even funny tone. At first, the poet describes Sam McGee in a sad, sickly way, but by the end of the story, he was warm and lively. The poet describes the homeless snows, the harsh trails, and the huskies howling. Robert Service paints a very sad picture, one where there is little warmth and light. When Sam McGee is cremated, the warm fire livens it up and brings good ol’ Sam back to life. Sam McGee’s response to his friend checking on him is funny, mostly because Sam was supposed to be, well,…

He knows it’s the last time. Wink motions for her to come closer. Hushpuppy inches toward him. It takes all of her might. She sits on his bed. Hushpuppy takes her to-go container from Elysian Fields out of a paper bag and pops it. She unwraps a gator nugget, dips it in hot sauce, and holds it out for Wink to take a bite. Hushpuppy watches as Wink chews weakly. She eats one herself. Wink and Hushpuppy draw it out. They don't want it to end. It takes a full minute for him to swallow the first bite, and she paces herself to finish when he does. Wink's chest heaves up and down, harder and harder. A tear rolls down his face. WINK (choking up) “No crying, you hear?” She holds them back, being tough for her Daddy. HUSHPUPPY No crying. Hushpuppy’s face hardens, and even as the tears fall, we see a strength and composure that only Wink could have put there. She falls into his arms and he embraces her. Hushpuppy squeezes Wink. She does not let go. She stays strong. Wink’s hand trembles on her back. She holds him as his deep, warm, heartbeat slows, slows, and stops. His weight slumps over her. She keeps on holding him, but she knows’. This scene gave the best visual because it makes you feel so much emotion. It feels that by reading these descriptions, it is like you are watching the movie. Not only that but reading these descriptions you can actually tear up because you visualize every word and those visuals tug at the emotions which makes the writer so great that he was able to write something that truly tugs at the…

One of the biggest reasons that this scene stands out from the rest of the movie is because of the presence of the intense storm overhead that illuminates the characters from the constant lightning and creates an intense "on the edge of your seat" moment which is even greater emphasized by the constant sound of thunder and gusts of wind. The storm represents all of the conflict and negativity that Sam and Suzy receive from all of the other characters. Sam desires friendship but is rejected by all of the other Khaki Scouts because of his social awkwardness, and Suzy is in a dysfunctional family where brothers live in a world of their own, and she no longer trusts her parents because her mother is carrying on an affair. The love that Sam and Suzy share for each other seems to be the only meaningful thing in each of their lives, and everything seems to be crashing down on them as Sam faces being taken away by social services and Suzy faces having to return to a family who doesn’t pay attention to her. The storm in this scene emphasizes the…

The fact that the majority of the video takes place at a church fits the emotion created by the words of the song. There is so much emotion in the lyrics right from the start of the song. The very first three lines, "Yes I do, I believe / That one day I will be, where I was / Right there, right next to you" (stanza 1, lines 1-3), tells the listener how tragic and sad of an event losing a loved one was for Sam Smith. He is so torn up about the loss that he continues to elude to the fact that he would rather die than live without his husband. At the point during the wedding, the lyrics being sung were the vows being said by Smith. This helps make the emotion at that point in the video not so sad, but more light and…
