HOME LIFE AND HOSTEL LIFE - HOME LIFE BETTER THAN HOSTEL LIFE

Marks came home during the Autumn Break for about a week, and met his friends whom he had not been able to meet during the last 2-3 months, as he was staying in the hostel. He was daily surrounded by them, as they were also equally keen to learn from him about his new experiences at the college as well as the playground.

One day one of his friends expressed a wish to be in a hostel, whereupon Marks had to remark that he was not right, in wishing for the hostel life and that their home life was far better than the hostel life. He had various points in support of his belief. These are some of the important arguments put forward by him.

It was the first day back at school for a new year. Many of us still longed to be on holiday, carefree and careless. It showed on our faces as we grumpily and wearily made our way along the corridors to our House Room. This year our form (11) had a new student. When we walked in we all just looked at him, scrutinizing, mentally noting anything unusual. There was something about him though, but I couldn't quite see it. Nobody interacted with him at first - the teachers were all around him, then he was set free, for us students to talk with him, I didn't talk to him myself, rather I just listened to the questions of others, which, he answered them faintly. They ask him questions to get him talking, to get him relaxed, but he simply answered the questions and nothing more. Soon the interest wore off and he was left all alone.…

For our second lab in Sports nutrition, we made pizza! For this, we only used one recipe for making the crust, which the only thing we needed to add was water and some oil. I really enjoy making homemade pizza sauce and homemade crust at home. The first thing we had to do was figure out our toppings. I suggested banana peppers, no one in my group had ever tried them before so they weren't sure. Mrs. Conway got the ingredients we requested so the next day we made up our pizza crust which consisted of a package of premade dough where all we had to do was add water, which was pretty easy!…

Tracking my daily food intake is not new to me since I have followed Weight-Watcher’s in the past and keeping a food diary is a cornerstone of the program. However, the difference is Weight-Watcher’s food tracking was paper-based and I used www.fitday.com to analyze my food intake this time. I definitely loved the idea of using a computer-based program because within a few seconds of entering my data it provides me with clear a snapshot of my nutrition, not only statistically but also graphically.…

Dieting is to restrict oneself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight. In fact dieting makes people fat. People manage to lose weight by going on severe diet but most people can’t tolerate rigid dieting for long so once it’s inescapably stopped, they put on a little more than before. Again they do the same, lose again, stop and go a little higher still. As a result crash dieters gain more and more weight over time. Person thinks it’s starving so, to indemnify, will switch on all the mechanisms it has to store food. One of these is hormones. There's nothing worse than having to eat up foods you can't stand because a diet demands it. That just boost stress hormones by getting feelings of deprivation and resentment, which as a result, intensify cravings. Thus people have more and more food to compensate for it and becomes fat. Most people who start dieting will continue to do so, on and off, for the rest of their lives. If a range of foods is designated as forbidden, dieters feel guilty if they transgress, which makes them feel worse about themselves. This is why people on a diet start to crave for heavy snacks like chocolate, potatoes etc which gives a quick boost to their energy levels, and why weight loss slows down dramatically after the first couple of weeks.…

‘Hey James! It has been long since we hanged out. Do you want to join us after school to Buzz café?’ Looking back, I saw Tom and Mark grinning at me. A smile crept at the corners of my mouth as I eagerly accepted their invitation. Tom and Mark are one of those always stick with me through thick and thin. In my small, tight social circle, these two pals always help me through anything; whether it is work or even my isolation. With a spring in my step, I walked to the classrooms energetically as I awaited school to finish with intense anticipation. It has been a long time since I hanged out with anyone and maybe , today can change my mundane life. Time crawled and seemed like an eternity before I heard the school bell ring. With euphoria bubbling inside me, I accompanied my friends to the Buzz café- a popular site where most teenagers spend their time with friends. ‘So bro, did you check out the latest game boy! It was so cool! Ten thousand games yet the price is really affordable!’ Mark exclaimed. We were totally immersed in our conversation and I was certainly having the time of my life when I caught a glimpse of a familiar face. It was my brother.…
