To find the % of the calories that were from carbs I took the total amount of carbs consumed for the day (380.3 g) and multiplied it by 4kcal/g (380.3 x 4) to get 1521.3 kcal. I then divided that product by my total overall calories for the day (3736.5) to give me .407, and from there a multiplied that number by 100 to give me 41%.…

Apart from the exercise routine, I suggest Jamie to introduce whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, oats, vegetables, fruits, lean-cut meats, extra virgin organic olive oil, nuts and seeds to her daily diet. Another great ally to Jamie's diet is chamomile tea, a study from the University of Pennsylvania tested chamomile supplements on 57 participants with generalized anxiety disorder for 8 weeks, and found it led to a significant drop in anxiety symptoms. Also, another tip for Jamie is, when she feels the urge to eat sweets she can have a square of 70% or more dark chocolate without added sugars.…

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…
February 18 It has been two days since I first left my room to look for food. I walked around for hours trying to find something I can eat, finally I found a store, but there has been no sign of anyone anywhere. In the store I found some bags and filled them with supplies. Food, drinks, pens, batteries, and a couple flashlights. I went back to my room at the hospital where I felt safe, I did not know where else to go.…
In order to improve my current diet, I need to reduce my caloric intake to the 1500-calorie diet recommended on USDA’s SuperTracker. The most efficient way to do this is to eat healthier meals at home rather than unhealthy, easy to procure fast food. In addition, I exceed my sodium intake with 2,016 mg on average, 516 mg over the recommended amount. Due to harmful effects of high sodium intakes on blood pressure, a prominent risk factor for cardiovascular and kidney diseases, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for Sodium at 2,300 mg. This indicates that I must lower my sodium intake as a precautionary measure (Higdon, Sodium (Chloride), 2001). Again, as mentioned above, the most proficient way to do this is by eliminating fast food out of my diet along with analyzing nutrition labels for high sodium content.…
From there on her main focus was on food and exercise. She continued on that path and it lead her to where she is today and she loves it and loves helping people become better. I also asked how she thinks that a registered dietitian could have helped her when she was younger. At her young age, she did work with dietitians that helped her become familiar with how to enjoy food and exercise. Maria had some dietitians that were rude and did not help with her eating disorder. She knew that if she continued down this path to be the dietitian people love and enjoy. Next, I asked, “What is a typical day in the life of a registered dietitian?” Maria starts off her day with screening her patients. She does this by getting a good nutritional assessment. This assessment allows you see recent weight loss, appetite, body mass index, etc. She then asks her patients about the history of their diet, what they eat in a normal day, and the type of exercise done. During the interview, she also observes the patients physically. For example, if she notices malnutrition, muscle loss, and the percent of fat on the patient. From all this information she then puts it all together and makes a plan based on the gathered information. Each care plan is different and it is…
