In O Brother Where Art Thou and Homer’s Odyssey the use of epic themes did not always parallel one another. The personality of the characters in the movie greatly affected whether the Greek’s upstanding views portrayed in the themes, such as loyalty, differed from the epic poem. In a comparable sense, the plots influenced whether the themes, like the homecoming, were similar in the movie and poem. However, the movie is by no means directly based upon the epic poem; you simply cannot view either without perceiving the connection between the uses of epic themes.…

Hapless Hospital is concerned about fulfilling its obligations under JCAHO to adequately evaluate applicants for Medical Staff Privileges. Dr. Goody, a board certified surgeon, was appointed by the hospital's credentials committee to be a proctor for (observe) a surgeon who had applied for staff privileges. The Holocaust in a whole is about people trying to survive. Both “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” and “A Survivor Remembers” tell a story about a survival, only each story has a different survival. In the story “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” by Arnold Geier the general topic is to escape while he still can. The general topic in “A Survivor Remembers” is going day by gruesome day till you can’t anymore. These topics are different but yet the same; they both deal with some sort of survival. Mister Geier in “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” survives not being taken by the Nazis and avoids the terrifying events that could have happened to him but have happened to millions of others. Berek Laturas in “A Survivor Remembers” is a different kind of survivor. He went through all of the horrible events of the Holocaust but somehow by the end of the war he survived it all, which six million others didn’t. The occasion of both stories is almost the same. They both took place in Germany and during the Hitler era. However in “Broken Glass, Broken Lives” it was only at the rise of Hitler, “A Survivor Remembers” was throughout all the events of the Holocaust.…

These past few years at Lionville Middle School have been some of the most memorable and exciting parts of my life. I came to Lionville Middle School from Shamona Creek Elementary. Shamona Creek elementary was much smaller than the gargantuan, new middle school. Also, there were so many more students and teachers. I expected the middle school to be filled to the brim with classrooms and I was correct. Some of my first memories here are quietly coming into the school and looking for my classroom. I did not even know where to go or how to get there. All around I saw kids getting to their classes right away, while I was stuck in the hallways. Fortunately, I saw a friend and followed him toward my new classroom. When I got my new locker, I had…

Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner is an award-winning novel and considered one of today’s most popular, contemporary classics. The story is one of familiar themes such as loyalty, forgiveness, betrayal, love, and redemption. It follows the tale of Amir and how he must atone for his sins and find a way to “be good again” (Hosseini 2). The quintessential message of this book relies on the idea of second chances. Themes of redemption, betrayal, loyalty, and forgiveness are not only shown without doubt through this book, but are also common among many literary works and religions. Hosseini is successful in showing the significance of these themes throughout the novel.…

The most interesting short stories that caught my undivided attention were: “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and “Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot” by Robert Olen Butler. These stories were both fascinating and intriguing in the sense that they made me feel like if I was the actual character. You could feel the pain and anguish the characters felt, even the desperation. It got to a point that I felt pity for the protagonist whom in both stories where narrating. Here we can see how someone can feel so desperate that they think the only way out is by taking their lives. Both Charlotte Perkins Gilman and Robert Olen Butler created an incredible form of fiction that makes you question if the scenes in the stories can truly happen in reality.…

Education is the fundamental key to our everyday lives. Knowledge is what keeps our economic growth possible. We are all taught, since childhood, that learning is a way to empower one's self, which is why our school systems are an important part of our society. Our futures are determined based on the knowledge obtained throughout our lives. School systems across America (and the world) strive to provide the best education possible to our youth. Modifying school calendars would create differences in extra classes and vacation between year-round and traditional schooling. Despite these differences, both require the same courses and standards, as well as providing child care during school. Considering the vast growth in education importance, children are expanding their knowledge from the beginning of the educational careers.…

When students move from elementary to middle school, they face numerous social challenges. For example, middle schools are often much larger, and students may find themselves separated from their elementary school friends. They have to make new friends in a strange, unfamiliar setting. Difference as per the dictionary definition would convey the points of dissimilarity for example the observational differences between men and women, however difference in the social sciences and humanistic context, difference contrasts, social groupings such as the different nationalities, ‘gender, class, age or sexuality’1However difference is not limited to these alone it may take the form of the attitudes and preferences held by individuals. Distinction however, needs to be made between difference and inequality in the social sciences context. Inequality bears reference to a disparity or variation between the distributions of valued resources within a community or between communities. This can be characterised as access to educational, financial, employment, and cultural, legal, resources. Access to such resources may be a different experience for the different represented groups in a community.…

I have chosen two statues from different eras to make a comparison, Marble statue of Dionysos leaning on an Archaistic Female Figure from the Roman era and Bronze statue of Artemis and a deer from Greek or Roman, late Hellenistic or early Imperial periods. The reason why I have chosen these two objects are that both of them have one big figure and one small figure which makes eyes of viewers move around. They also depicted gods with smaller figures. These two statues have many differences as they are made of different materials and have different poses even though these have similar composition.…
