Both dementia and Alzheimer is based on memory loss that changes an individuals daily life. Like with most disease or disorders there are warning signs and symptoms. Dementia is a brain disorder .Although they are two different things, they both attack the brain. As a Medical Assistant, you should be able to tell when your patient has a disease, such as Dementia or Alzheimer's. The symptoms and signs of Dememtia are normally after a storke, Alzheimer's signs have more to do with memory lost, forgetting thier name, forgetting other people's names, they slowly start to forget themselves and people around them.
The signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's is cognitive, behavioral, mood, and psychological ways. The only difference with dementia is that there is muscular experiences they may go through. Dementia is an overall term used to describe symptoms that impact memory. Alzheimer is a more common type of dementia Alzheimer by the time passes i my get worse and can affect memory and language. Early signs of dementia are forgetfulness, confusion, and also when you are not able to care for your self. Alzheimer also can be detected if the patient have depression, forgotful memory, disorientation ect.
As a MA it's best to do your research on different types of health problem. Yes both Alzheimer's and dementia both cause memory lost but they have there differences. Alzheimer's is a disease to where dementia is not. Alzheimer's symptom can vary from anger, aggression, wandering, paranoia even mental confusion. Where dementia symptoms can be anxiety, sleep disorder, mood swing, an irritability as a MA it;s good to know the different symptoms because as you patient explains there problem you can give the doctor more information on what might be going
