These include, theft, burglary, shoplifting, assault, murder, ect... A delinquent crime is committed by an adult. A status offense is committed by a youth. Some of these violations are; truancy, running away, curfew violation, underage drinking, ect. The difference is that if the delinquent offenses were committed by youth it would be a different status, and it would not be a status offense if committed by an adult.
Juveniles have three intervenes regarding the Juvenile Court system; delinquency, neglect, and status offense. Delinquency is a violation to the penal code, this is when the youth commits a delinquent act. Neglect is also known as dependency and it is where the youth or the child in question has lacked support or supervision. Last status offense is the offense of running away, truancy, ect. According to the youth's code, the court can step in and sentence the youth.
Males and females are treated differently according to the juvenile justice system. Boys have more leeway for their rebelliousness due to the old saying "boys are boys," they do not get harsh punishments for status offenses. However, females get harshly punish for status offenses due to the justice system's fear of girl's sexual activity.
