Let’s start with the medium used in these three-dimensional sculptures. With the Vesperbild (Pieta), sculpture the medium used wood and polychromy, (PG 557). While on the other hand the Pieta sculpture was constructed out of marble, (PG 643-644).
Another difference you see between these two sculptures have to do with the Virgin Mary herself. In the Vesperbild (Pieta) sculpture, you see a grief stricken and distraught Virgin Mary who still seems to be in shock. While in the Virgin Marry in Pieta sculpture, there is a much more youthful version and in a much calmer, almost as if she is at piece, demeanor. (PG 643-644, 557). …show more content…
In the Pieta sculpture, you see an “unnaturally smaller, lifeless body” of Jesus, (PG 644). (Also showing the inconsistency in age and scale). Where as in Vesperbild (Pieta) sculpture you see a gory, emaciated, blood dripping from the wounds, and sickly looking Jesus. (PG 557).
