The National Center for Education Statistics states, “Urban children were more than twice as likely to be living in poverty than those in suburban locations (30 percent compared with 13 percent in 1990), while 22 percent of rural children were poor in 1990.” In other words, the majority of these children coming from rough home lives could eventually end up like their parents and be in poverty. This makes it difficult to find the motivation for these children coming to school, knowing they could eventually end up just like their parents. School location may be one of the most important factors in contributing to violence in schools. For example, some inner-city public elementary schools primarily receive students that come from poverty-stricken homes (Lippman 2). It could be with drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, or bullying. The most popular of these being bullying. Bullying happens every day and in every school throughout the world. Whether it be verbally or physically or even cyberbullying, it is bullying and it is the school officials job to prevent it. Primarily in big cities such as Baltimore, where the documentary took place, the overpopulation of the school was leading more and more kids to go unnoticed and get away with bullying. And the bullying at these inner-city schools is much more common and often times more dangerous. Bullying in the school environment also can come back to gang related activities. Based on the location of the school and depending on what type of students are coming in, gangs can form and make the school much more violent. A solution that has increased over the last 10 years is the use of security cameras. According to Anlan Zing, author of Indicators of School Crime and Safety, the use of security cameras has decreased violence in public schools tremendously (Zing 2). All of these factors will affect the children’s ability to learn and be safe. Especially for the students that are trying to learn, it is difficult to stay focused while there are many disturbances within the classroom. What these children need is a safe place to be without causing or being involved in any trouble. In
