Presidential Candidates …show more content…
According to Fox News at the beginning of the race we had twenty-three presidential candidates now closing in on the primary we are down to just five, three republicans and two democrats.
The republicans are Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, and John Kasich and the democrats are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (2016). Each candidate has their own slogan, which they use to represent their entire campaign. Ted Cruz’s slogan is Reigniting the Promise for America, Donald Trump’s is “Make America Great Again”, John Kasich’s is “K for US”, Hillary Clinton is “Hillary For America”, Bernie Sanders is “A Political Revolution Is Coming” (InsideGov 2015). Each motto is different because each candidate is different, yet each of them whole-heartedly believe that they are change America need for our next

Currently winning the count for the democratic party according to New York Times (2016), Hillary Clinton likes to use her woman card to persuade the female vote often on an emotional level. Besides being the only woman running, she has no trouble getting her name out there due to already being in office ones as The First Lady. Hillary promises to make our country for future generations by fighting for the middle class and the problem of inequality on all levels (Chozick 2015). As for immigration Mrs.Clinton agrees with Mr.Obama explaining, “to begin fixing our broken immigration system and focus finite resources on deporting felons rather than families” (New York Times 2016). Regarding foreign policy, Mrs.Clinton believes that the lax policy on helping Syria is what has led to the uprising of Islamic radicalism, which is why we must defeat ISIS once and for all (2016). The second democratic candidate Bernie Sanders is similar to Clinton on some issues, but he tends to have a socialist viewpoint in many aspects. Mr.Sander’s is known for his free-tuition, gay-marriage supporter, anti-corporate, and need for more government views. While many in the democratic party are Pro-Bernie, he definitely has the attention of young americans, especially the African-American vote (New York Times 2015). Bernie promises to pay more attention to the lower-class, especially in the area of minimum wage rates. He has proposed to raise the wage to as high as $15 per hour, which he believes will in turn decrease the poverty rate and allow for a livable wage for workers (New York Times 2015). As for the corporate world, Bernie is proposing the breakup of the nation’s six major banks, because they hold too much power in our economy. Speaking of power, Bernie believes that the problems with ISIS, it not for the United States to fight single-handedly, but that we should rally behind Muslim nation but letting them take the fore-front and not us. (New York Times 2015). On the Republican side, we have Ted Cruz who is currently the senator of Texas. Mr. Cruz’s campaign is run by his determination to keep the United States as far away from liberalism as possible. He is known for his strong constitutionalist views of pro-gun laws. While he also agrees with the death penalty, saying it should only be used for only the most horrendous crimes such as the mass shooting at a church in Charleston, S.C. (New York Times 2015). On the topic of ISIS and the Syrian Refugee Mr. Cruz errs on the side of caution. He believes the best thing for refugees is to be relocated in the Middle East in a predominately Muslim area unless they are Christian, in which they should be able to seek safety in the United States (New York Times 2015) As far as ISIS goes, Ted says that no option are too extreme, and he will do whatever need be to put an end to ISIS. Mr. Cruz’s exact response is quite clear stating, “What we need is a commander in chief who makes clear if you join ISIS, if you wage jihad on America, then you are signing your death warrant.” (New York Times 2015). When speaking about government spending, Cruz has many plans to cut down on spending, including closing the “Five for Freedom” agencies; Internal Revenue Service, Department of Education, Department of Energy, Department of Commerce, and Department of Housing and Urban Development (New York Times 2015). Next on the Republican ballot is Ohio Governor John Kasich. Kasich is the only republican candidate to acknowledge the issue of climate change as a global problem. While he doesn’t believe that it is necessary for people to tie themselves to trees, there are changes that could be implemented to help better the environment (New York Times 2015). Mr. Kasich seem to ride the fence on many issues including gay marriage, the N.S.A, and immigration. As for Obamacare, Kasich does not support the cause and wants to repeal it if voted into office (New York Times 2015). Last but not least, the presidential candidate who seems to get the most attention Donald Trump who is known for his extreme ideology and often rude persona, but for some reason many republicans believe he is what our country needs. Trump is well known for his promise to build a wall along the southern border to stop immigrants from coming into the United States. His second biggest covered issue is the debate on how ISIS should be handled. Trump’s answer is and I quote, “I would bomb the hell out of ISIS” as well as also killing their family members (New York Times 2015).
