Difference Between Winn And Sheep Shearing
Each artist has his own style. They have their own way of how they use each different media, and way of portraying life. This gives each painting or drawing a unique look that is almost the artist’s way of signing their work. Such as, the difference between one of the mural study pieces at the Pearl Fincher Museum and Sheep Shearing by James “Buck” Winn. This makes each painting look different, and gives each painting a different feel. Made by an unknown artist in an unknown year a mural study piece from the museum is an oil painting on a panel. It is a painting of several men raising, shearing, and killing sheep. In the front left corner of the painting, there are two turkeys. As the painting moves to the left the men become more concentrated. Behind the men is a city made of tall buildings, and a bright, cloudy sky. The men in this painting are standing on and around several large bags. The man farthest to the left is carrying hay, the next one to the right of the first man is …show more content…
It was made in 1934. Winn was from Celina, Tx, he was born in 1905 and died in 1979. In this painting three men are shearing two sheep and refining the wool. The man on the bottom of the painting is sheering a sheep, the one in the top left corner is refining the wool, and the last man is holding another ram steady waiting for it to be sheared. Each man is muscular, has a yellow undertone, and is wearing a different color hat. Behind the men is a building, and the sky is a dark color making it look overcast and dark. Winn’s use of the paint and brush strokes creates a fun, cartoon texture. The strokes on the sheep add a flowing, light feel to the wool. The overall look of the painting has a matte feel, but the highlights give the lighting required for the 3D illusion. The setup of this painting directs the eyes of the viewer up and around the painting; showing the process of sheering a sheep and processing the

The first piece of art that I decided to write on that I came across in the Cummer Museum was June Morning, by Thomas Hart Benton, painted in 1945.His oil painting depicts everyday life on a farm, with a rancher milking a cow, the sun breaking the clouds in the background behind the barn, and beautiful flora at the base of the picture; giving the illusion that you are peeking through the greenery for the glimpse of the farm (Cummer Resources. #3 Thomas Hart Benton – June Morning.).…

He is known for his still life paintings. The piece located at the Muskegon Museum of Art is a small arrangement of fruit on a table. The background is a plain grey color and the table that the fruit is all sitting on is a dark greyish black marble one. In the center of the picture is the display of fruit. The arrangement of fruit appears to have a light shone on it, causing it to stand out even more against the dark table and background. There are both white and black grapes, peaches, a pear, two plumbs, some small red berries and some leaves on a stem that I am assuming are part of a grape vine. Some of the leaves are completely green, others are like those in the fall that are on their way from green to red. Every color is present in the picture is present. White grapes, the red berries and the red on the edges of the leaves, orange in the leaves and on the peaches, yellow in the leaves and the peaches, the green stems and the leaves sprouting from them, blue and purple in the grapes that fades into the same shade of black that is the…

Based on traditional landscape painting methods, Cropsey made clear observation of different landscapes of nature and drew sketches of them. He then combined them to create a larger, composite landscape painting. Here, we can see that he presents a Romantic panoramic landscape view in his canvas and organized spatial recession in this landscape with the use of light and color. The painting can almost be divided into three main parts: a dark foreground, a bright middle ground and a translucent background. In the foreground, he depicts the wilderness in a dark tone. In the center, Cropsey uses a warm golden yellow to brighten the cultivated hay fields of the family farm. Not only it creates a contrast with the dark surrounding wilderness, but it also was a recognizable style of the artist’s time. With that said, we can tell that this painting has a relative clarity, and that Cropsey might intend to make a focus upon the things in the middle. To recede the viewer’s eyes to the background, Cropsey uses a lighter and cooler color to portray the objects, for example, the grayish-blue mountains and translucent clouds. It creates an illusion of three-dimensional space and furthers the distance away from the viewer. The brushwork of the painting is evidently loose, which gives a painterly effect. Therefore, we can say that Cropsey depicts the scenery by…

In the history of art, we have seen many paintings which share the same content, but were done by different artists in different movements. Each of the artists has a different style, different ways to observe what they see to translate into a painting. An example is the “The Regatta” by Theo van Rysselberghe in 1892, and the “Slave Ship” by Joseph Mallord William Turner in 1840.…

In this painting there are a few visual elements that stand out. The first element that stands out the most would absolutely have to be lighting. Holbein’s shows an abundant of tenebrism. There are many places in this painting that shows tenebrism such as under the table, the two men’s clothing and around their feet, the left side of the skull and also in the folds in the curtain. The tenebrism helps makes the color be more vibrant, mainly the greens. Holbein showed a lot of visual texture in this painting mainly in the clothing the two men wore. The man to the right has a fur trimmed coat that looks to be super soft and the shirt he has on looks to be silk with the…
