very dramatic way. In the movie, all emotions were raw, and very much visible to the audience, so watching this ending caused many emotions from the movie to stir up inside of me as well. However, while the ending of the play definitely had the facts and the story, I couldn’t feel the real emotions through reading the play like I would watching the movie. Both the play and the movie portraying Anne Frank’s story helped me gain a lot more insight on it, but the movie was certainly the source that was the most impactful.
Anne Frank’s story was showed to me through a play and a movie, but the movie definitely told it in a much more impactful way.
Many reasons go into why the movie had a larger impact on me, with the main reason being that it shows the audience exactly what happens. When looking at the written play I can see how it has many of the same facts that the movie has. However, when reading a play I had to imagine the scenes in my head, and having that imagery only in my head does not compare to having it right in front of me in the form of a movie. A specific scene that took place both in the movie and in the play was a scene where the house with the Annex got broken into. This, seemingly, important and crucial part of the story was portrayed in a much more dramatic way in the movie. In the movie, the character’s faces were filled with such contagious emotion. While watching this specific scene, I felt every emotion the filmmakers intended the audience to feel. I felt quite scared and anxious for all who were in the Annex at the time of the
breakin.
