Differences Between China And Russia

Along with the contrasting governments, one can also find a rift in the ways that China and Russia established their agricultural systems after their revolutions occurred. Collectivization was the way to go in Russia. A majority of Russia’s farmland was in collectives. For the families that lived on these collectives, they had to split all money made equally, after most of the income was taken through taxes. This gave the people no incentive to work hard because everyone made the same amount no matter what who worked hardest. However, China had communes instead, which is similar to a large group of collectives and could hold up to 5,000 families, but they are not quite the same, especially the way China runs things. One major difference is,
during the Great Leap Forward China was paying their workers for how hard they worked. This causes a lot more production than beatings can. Also, the communes weren’t just agriculturally based, they also contained elements of industrialization. In addition, there were a wider variety of jobs on the communes because they had things like schools, nurseries and elderly homes. Although Russia didn’t have anything like this, there were a few State Farms, which were based off of hourly wage. This still didn’t give an impetus for the workers to exhaust themselves in the fields. What happened then was the leaders decided to take the encouragement into their own hands by beating it into the workers. The constant threat of beatings was what made the workers stay on task. The act of beating would not have been as prominent in China due to the inducement of the increased pay for working harder than your neighbors.
