There are many differences between the movie and the novel of The Great Gatsby. One difference is that Gatsby died thinking that he was a winner. It was the phone call that made the movie a little different than the novel. Gatsby was waiting for Daisy and decides to go for a swim, while his butler waits for her to call as well. “Until long after there was any one to give it to if it came” (Fitzgerald, chapt. 8). The difference is that you can’t exactly have somebody, like Nick, not notice that Gatsby was being played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He would probably immediately know that he was Gatsby, and not some random stranger having a conversation and talking about his stories in the war out of nowhere. Nick and Gatsby make plans for the next day, and then confesses he has not met the host yet. Gatsby admits that he is the host, and says “I thought you knew, old sport. I’m afraid I’m not a very good host” (Fitzgerald, chapt. 3).
There have been some major differences between The Great Gatsby novel and movie.
