And as in most books, the main character develops throughout the book, learning from his or hers mistakes and whatever else they might have come across. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" is a saying that many live by, or turn to in bad times. What it means is basically that it is impossible to know which roads to take in life. You might experience a rough time once in a while, but life is about learning, and this is what you learn from. Secondly you will learn that if you choose one that is a blind alley you should probably consider an alternative the next time you have to a similar decision.…

In her story Happy Endings, author Atwood speaks of various possible plots on what a happy ending is, almost like “what ifs?”, giving the reader a rush in each situation with a distinct “happy ending”. “Intended to ‘reveal the logic of traditional behavior and the many textures lying beneath ordinary life’” quotes the textbook. Causing the reader to wonder, “What is a ‘happy ending’?”. Everyone has a different interpretation of what a happy ending is and Atwood encourages her readers to explore their thoughts through her writing.…

James’ home life is the polar opposite of what he dreams his home life could be. James recalls wishing he were in the TV show “Father Knows Best.” The show tells of the ideal American household, with a well dressed father coming home from work every day to greet his perfect family. On the other hand, James’ stepfather would come home only on weekends, busy and distracted. He and his siblings would walk around with giant holes in their pants and the cheapest pair of shoes on the market. It seems that James’ dream, the perfect life, does not exist for anyone; only in the television world.…
Trauma...it’s such a tragic phenomenon. It’s a happening that truly breeds misfortune, insecurities, and most of all just a feeling of being lost inside of your own self...but most would say that if they hadn’t defied the staggering odds, overcame the unsparing adversity, and fought through the relentless pain that they had to endure throughout the entire ordeal that there wouldn’t be a snowball’s chance in hell that they would have come out to become as strong as they did. And rightfully so, for there are no heroes without tragedy. And it is through this tragedy...or trauma I should say that these heroes uncover what defines them and their character along with the methods that they go about to display their tribulations to the world through their own amazingly unique style of art that also…

Having now finished the story, i would like to say that my overall impression about the book hasn't changed much, it was still a dry and boring book with a plot line that didn't seem to climax much at all but instead had a steady pace with a litte bump here or there. Many will say that they hated the end of the book but I think the book was ended like that with a certain purpose in mind, to make us think what was this book about and why did it end like this?…
“There’s more magic and power in those things in that brown bag then in all the rest of the world put together,” The man said softly. “But, but what are they?” James murmured, finding his voice at last. “Where do they come from?” “Ah-ha,” the old man whispered, “You’d never guess that.” He was crouching a little now and pushing his face closer to James; until the tip of his long nose was actually touching the skin on James’s forehead.…
- In the ordinary world, we meet the hero. The call to adventure is when the hero is needed for something. Refusal to the call is when the hero usually refuses to accept the call to adventure. Meeting the mentor is when the hero meets someone who helps him out and gives advice. Crossing the first threshold is when the hero leaves his regular life and takes on something else. Test, allies, and enemies is when the hero adjusts to the new world. Approach is like a preparation for the final test. The ordeal is similar to the climax. The reward is when it all pays off. The road back is when the hero returns to their regular life. Resurrection is when the hero realizes they have changed. Lastly, return to the elixir is when the hero receives their rewards/punishments.…
| This is how he starts out the book and it is in a way introducing you to one of the worst childhoods that you can have. It also shows you that you can go beyond your childhood and become something or do something with your life. I think it is kind of weird that one of the worst childhood to have is Irish because that would not have been the first one on my list.…
