Throughout the history of time, there have been many leaders of the world’s different civilizations. While each leader may have possessed different qualities: some strong, others weak; some righteous, others corrupt…each rule played an important part in shaping the culture of that civilization. Though not every civilization was governed by a leader that had a worldly impact, the rule of England under King Henry VIII, was one of great historical importance. Unlike many leaders of his time, Henry’s legacy was not forged under the motivation of power and greed, but by love and his desire to have a male heir. Henry VIII became the King of England in 1509 after the death of his father Henry VII. Like most kings Henry desired to have a male heir,…

King Henry V is one of the greatest kings that ever ruled England and was a favorite among his people. One of the reasons behind this is the presence of two men in his life; his father, King Henry IV, and Sir John Falstaff, his lowlife friend and bar companion. Both men represent two opposite father - figures to the young prince. It is the Prince’s ability to take and acquire the best traits in each that makes him surpass both of them and become great. Prince Hal’s relationship with both men is one of conflict. On one hand, his relationship with his father is tumultuous, while on the other his relationship with Falstaff is confusing.…

Films that I particularly favor are thrillers. One reason Thrillers become so enjoyable for me, a sense of diversion is created making the viewers more indulge in the movie all the way to the ending. The plots are usually twisted, climatic, suspenseful and intelligence is often use far as the writing perspective to result in an ecliptic viewing of the movie. A really great thriller will usually bring a shock factor by the climax, then the movie will receive a better understanding from the beginning to end. Another genre of films I enjoy are Musicals they are fashionable and express emotions through singing. I am really into lyricism so I enjoy comparing the actual expression of the each character's individual story and the progression…

In retrospect, Lord Henry Wotton seems to be a reflection of not only society itself, but teenagers as well. His values are much like that of American society. For example, Lord Henry’s obsession with youth, beauty, reputations, and overall appearances reflect what the media and television are always looking for in order to find “the next big thing.” In the same obsessive fashion, Lord Henry parallels the average teenage girl.…

The Once and Future King, By T.H. White, is the book that has influenced me more than just about anything in my life. I first read The Sword in the Stone when I was in grade 3. The rest of the book was too hard for me at the time, but 3 years later I returned and read the rest. Since then I have read the book cover to cover countless times. I love the book so much, in fact, I have a well-loved soft cover copy for reading, and a newer hardcover so sit on my shelf. The ants in the Sword in the Stone served as my introduction to political theory, communism and fascism. The scenes of epic battles captured my heart and imagination, which spark an obsession with Arthurian literature which is still have today. I’m also indirectly named after Guinevere,…

There are many versions to the famous fairy tale Cinderella. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s German version of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel,” is a household story of a young girl named Cinderella who eventually marries a prince. This specific version of Cinderella gave birth to the Walt Disney version of Cinderella that most Americans know today. However the stories are very different. The Grimm brothers’ version is much darker and gory then the classic American version. Small differences like this shed a different light on Cinderella and her journey to a “happy” ending.…
