In the first scenes of both films it becomes quite apparent that both female protagonists’ husbands face some sort of trouble. This hinders them from playing the role of the breadwinner for the family. Qiu Ju’s husband is injured as he was kicked in the groin by the village’s political head. The injury not only cost him his health but also prevented him from working which incremented to the medical fees. Ermo’s husband, who is impotent and sick; cannot work due to physical problems. As you can see both males would stay at home while, the females would go out and try to earn some money. This shows how the gender roles in both films contrast the traditional ideals of men and women. As you may have already noticed, the similarities are beginning to show for the protagonists; they will face many hurdles throughout the film. One concrete similarity is how the protagonists’ names are in the titles of the films.…

The protaganist and narrators in John Updike's A & P and James Joyce's Araby share many of the same experinces. They both experince a fairy tale-like fanatise about the women around them. In the beging of the story the misconcive their feelings of lust or dependince as feelings of true love. In Araby he knows little of the girl he is falling in love with as is the same with A&P. But in Araby he has been dependent on the girl for a long time, in A&P it was a "love at first sight" situtation. Both of the stories have a connection to a store of some kind. The real differnece lies in the way in which the stores are precived. The main difference with these characters is that in the movie, Orpheus cheats on his fiancée. We soon see that Eurydice is the wildcard when it comes to Orpheus. It does not matter whether or not he is with another woman, she will do what it takes to win Orpheus's love. This is where one of the main differences occurs. Contrary to the myth, Orpheus cheats on his fiancée and gives his love and affection to Eurydice. The myth portrays Orpheus as a very kind, honest, loving guy. This image is shattered in the movie as he is very mean and stingy to his wife and creates the ultimate foul by cheating on her. Although Eurydice is not married, her…

The story of “Araby” by Joyce and the story “A&P” by Updike share many characterizations that support a very similar theme. One of the many differences of these two empires was woman’s rights. While Han China was a highly patriarchal and believed woman were the “lowest of the low” on the social scale, Rome saw woman still as lesser being, but still had some importance. I believe this is because Rome, unlike China, had more than one god, including goddesses. These woman of a higher power influenced Rome in a way as to see women in a new way, not as scum. Thus making these two cultures different.…

Confucianism strongly stresses in the fulfillment of responsibilities by the roles in society, whether husband to wife or woman to woman. This particular teaching was the ultimate basis for the plot and conflict in The Love Suicides of Amijima. In this play, the duties as a husband and father and as a woman to another woman are illustrated and strongly affected the characters’ decisions or lack of decisions. The general outline of the story is a love triangle; Jihei, a married man falls in love with a prostitute, Koharu, is unable to “ransom” her (buy her contract from the owner), and eventually commits suicide together. Jihei’s final decision of death was based on his inability to choose between his obligation as a husband and father to Osan and his children, and his love for Koharu. Making his decision even harder was the nobility both women had towards each other; Koharu agrees to give up her love to save Jihei for Osan and Osan agrees to pawn even her own clothing to pay ransom for Koharu to save Koharu’s life. Unable to have both women, Jihei’s suicide was the only way he could deal with losing one. Without his Confucius sense of obligation to Osan, there would be no predicament and…

It is ironic how both of these men's lives were good until some information was spread around that either tore them apart, ruined them, or both. Information getting to them is what led to the end of both Okonkwo and Oedipus. For Okonkwo it was Christianity. When Christianity moved into his area and started taking over, he just gave up. The information that the Christians were preaching, made so much sense that many people began to convert. This effected Okonkwo in a big way, especially when his own son converted. Eventually, after many failed efforts to stop Christianity, he hangs himself. Oedipus on the other hand never actually killed…

They both had to make a sacrifice before they went down. They both were escorted by a nymph. Also, they also both could not stay for long. On the other hand, The two depictions of the underworld are extremely different to the one another. In The Odyssey there are no sections at all; the sinners are placed with the good and everyone is miserable. Also the dead souls do not know who they are and seem deranged. In The Aeneid, all different types of people are separated into different categories based on how they lives their mortal lives. Their are people who are being punished for being bad people, and others are being rewarded. The two versions differ too because Odysseus could not wait to go back and get out of the underworld; “I rushed back to my ship, commanded all hands to take the decks and cast off ables quickly” (Odyssey, 207). On the other hand, Aeneas did not understand why anyone would want to go back; “What dreadful longing sends them towards the light?”(Aeneid, 138) This is when the spirits are lined up to be sent back onto rather in another body. The difference in the two books are clear and it shows what interpretations is the better one. This reflects on how greeks view their after life then versus…

A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file enabling it to spread from one computer to another, leaving infections as it travels. Like a human virus, a computer virus can range in severity: some may cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software or files. Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it actually cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. It is important to note that a virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program) to keep it going.…

For example both have a tree that plays a significant role. The tree in the Iroquois story has fruit that all can eat from but you must stay away from the roots for it will harm the tree. In the other story there's a garden from which all trees can be eaten from but there is one tree in particular that is prohibited. Going along with the importance of the tree, woman played a huge role in both tales. Although they both were important roles, they again portrayed very opposing roles. In the Iroquois tribe women are admired because of Sky Woman’s accomplishments. To christians, men are more significant and women aren’t so much because of what Eve did. As i had started to mention earlier, women have to do with the importance of the tree because they both were very disobedient because they went to the tree and ate from what they weren't supposed…
