“The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.” This is a quote by Charles Dickens, a timeless author who wrote memorable stories. Dickens had a life full of travel and had a few different homes. He made many contributions to literature with his classic books. None of us were put on this earth to be alone and other people in our lives play a big part of our well-being. This could include church, a group fitness center, a twelve step group, a gardening club, a book club, a free class at a college. Individuals choose their leisure activities in a relationship with their needs. Leisure also has the role to reduce mental stress and induce a stage of relaxation. Stress can be reduced by a series of relaxing activities, which will in the end disconnect individual from the mental obstacles they have to face. People design their leisure time as to feel better and gain forces to continue working. Meeting friends, reading a good book, attend cultural events; all these activities reduce the daily stress we all…

Resting and socializing is precisely what Western cultures aim to receive in exchange for long hours of work. If a person works hard, he will get paid. If he gets paid, he will have the means to have leisure time. Yet the average American works 40-50 hours per week, leaving him little time to relax. Even in his spare time, he is consumed by everyday obligations that distract from leisure time such as shopping, paying bills, and keeping up the household. The excess of things in Western society takes away from the leisure time Western society is supposed to…
There are two types of people in this world, those who seek instant gratification versus those who seek delayed gratification. In a more general perspective, we humans would “like” to behave in one manner, but instead “choose” to behave in another. In particular, we tend to pursue immediate gratification in a way that we ourselves do not appreciate in the long run.…
My previous life style was completely different from the current one. After classes I used to go to some entertaining places with my friends like: playing football in stadiums, game clubs etc. Sometimes I just wasted my time in front of TV. In holidays, I would go to sightseeing sites like rivers, mountains. We enjoyed nature’s beauty. Every day passed interestingly. Without any doubt, I can say those days were golden days of my life. On the contrary, nowadays I try to spend each day wisely. I make plan of my daily routine, and sometimes it seems that I followed a specific procedure of every week. More entertaining time lasts in my university. After classes, I go to my job, and this also requires responsibility and special preparation. The main difference is that I cannot spend my whole day just for nothing or for relaxing.…
As a student, I am quite busy on weekdays. However, at weekends, I have much free time, so I usually spend it on relaxing to prepare for a coming busy week. First of all, in my free time, I like playing some sports, such as soccer, badminton or basketball, with my friends. Sport not only makes me stronger but also connects me with my friends who have the same hobbies. We sometimes go riding in order that we can combine sporting activity and sightseeing. If the weather is not fine enough for me to hang out with my friends, I like to read books. I have a big bookshelf with many kinds of books but I prefer science books. Through these books, my knowledge is gradually enlarged. Thirdly, I also love to listen to music from pop, rock 'n roll to rap or melody. I can listen to music at any place with a small but modern Ipod which is my father's gift for my 18th birthday. Sometimes, I dance freely when listening to my favorite songs. Music really paints my life. Last but not least, I spend my free time on surfing on Internet. I can chat with my friends from very far distance or log on websites to read online news. With Internet, I update many things without having to go anywhere. I can also study English through some interesting websites. (If I have very difficult exercises and cannot solve them by myself, I will visit Google Answers and have somebody to help me. Just like this one ^^). In conclusion, I want to use all of my free time to relax and connect with other…
