There are many different approaches in counselling and psychotherapy. However, these diverse approaches are similar in practice. Listening to clients, understanding their experiences, and identifying their problems are all common practices. The therapy needs to be confidential in order to make the client feel safe and secure. The counsellor needs to focus on the client’s problems once they are made to feel comfortable. One kind of therapy is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This approach helps us learn to act and think in a certain way using our perceptions of life. The Systemic Family Therapy focuses on the individual, couple and family. The main goal of this therapy is to better interact with the family in exploring dilemmas. The Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy focuses on developing our awareness of our inner and outer self. In Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, the therapist and client work together to identify the client’s distress and difficulty. It focuses on understating memories and feelings that disturb the mind and cause pain. The Psychodynamic Therapy is a non-medical approach that focuses on items that are usually meaningless to the majority.
