Different Types Of Elderly Abuse

As elderly abuse is a huge problem in our societies, it’s needed to distinguishes between the different types of elderly abuse and identify them. There are many types of elderly abuse, but the most common one are: Physical, Sexual, emotional or psychological abuse, neglect of the elderly and healthcare Abuse and Fraud. More types can be Abandonment of the Elder, financial abuse, and self-neglect. Physical abuse involves the using of physical force like beating, shoving, pushing which can cause a physical harm and pain or ongoing impairment. Physical abuse may also involve physical punishments, drug abuse, force feeding and restraints. Sexual abuse is a non-consensual sexual act with the elderly and a contact without his constant. Some behaviors
that show sexual abuse are unwanted touching, cleaning or treating the older person’s genital area roughly or inappropriately, Non-consensual sexual contact, language or exploitative behavior, and sexual assault. For the emotional and psychological abuse , it’s defined as inflecting distress and pain by the verbal and nonverbal means. That’s include action and threats that cause fear of violence, deprivation , isolation, Habitual blaming or scapegoating that cause feelings of shame and powerlessness. Neglect of elderly may be intentional or unintentional. It’s defined as the failure to fulfill a caretaking obligation of the caregiver, for example, failure to provide basic needs (e.g. food, adequate or clean clothing, and medicines), lack of supervision, ignorance, leaving elder in unsafe places or isolation. The last type is healthcare Abuse and Fraud, which happens when medical professionals, including doctors and other professionals, take advantages from using elderly people. It occurs when they are charging them but not give them the health care, providing unnessery tests and referrals only on the basis of receiving kickbacks, prescribing too many medications, Double-billing or charging more for services, and Medicaid fraud.
