Differentiated Instruction Analysis
Differentiated instruction is a major component in being an effective teacher. Differentiated instruction gives the teacher the chance to meet each student’s needs or unique learning styles. After reading this article I have chosen two students to apply the knowledge I have learned throughout this course and article to differentiate instruction for. Differentiating these two students will enhance their literacy skills and confidence in reading and writing. Amanda was described as a shy, sixth grade female that eventually became comfortable around her tutee and open-ended shop and showed her bubbly personality. Rebekah mentions how Amanda lacked confidence in her ability to read and write, which I believe stems from her never being able to find a book on her reading level that truly interest her. Therefore Rebekah found that she really enjoyed reading The Little House On The Prairie books. Since Amanda shows interest in this series it would be my goal to find books with a similar setting or pioneer themed. A few examples include, “Our Only May Amelia” or “The Ballad of Lucy Whipple.” Since I know a little bit about Amanda’s personality and interest, one way I would help to differentiate her instruction is by implementing literature circles in the classroom. The literacy circles are a great strategy to implement into the classroom for literacy purposes. It can used for flexible grouping, and allows each student to be placed in a group most appropriately fitted for them. I would also use the comprehension ball in my classroom for a variety of purposes. It could be used for math, social studies, science, reading, writing; it could be useful for every subject. Differentiated instruction should be a teacher’s goal to implement in any way possible to allow each student to reach his or her full potential on mastering

This could be whether or not they get adult support as well as the support offered through the use of worksheets and resources. Resources that could be implemented in order to ensure that lower ability students are still able to progress in their learning include, key word banks, work sheets with additional support e.g sentence starters and flashcards.
