The story, which is about a father and son relationship, displays a 16 years old boy who was very rebellious, carefree and naive. According to the passage, “ I only wanted the dollar allowance he gave me each week, and the dollar and a quarter I earned caddying for him on weekend…. I did not want to work. I want to drive around with my friends, or walk with them downtown.”(P69) This statement demonstrate the boy is being a naive and frail person, he only want to sit around and doing nothing without achieve any accomplishment. The boy had all the characteristics of a typical adolescent. His father, determined to help the boy change his characteristics and grow to a more responsible man, forcing his son to a construction zone and digging in the heat of the sun.
