What should Jane do about her top performer’s mean streak?
Case Analysis Submitted by OB Group 6 comprising of the following members
INTRODUCTION
The following analysis is based on a case of aberrant behaviour of one Andy Zimmerman in an organization called TechniCo as seen from the perception of one Jane Epstein who is in conversation over email with Rick Lazarus, her former colleague. The entire case revolves around Jane’s perception of Andy’s attitude towards colleagues and subordinates and the subsequent third person analysis of Rick Lazarus. As seen in the case, Andy Zimmerman is a hard working and dedicated professional who faces behavioural issues and cannot handle the minimum level of mediocrity with patience. His outbursts are quick and they come naturally to him. Whether these are natural, is still to be analysed but it causes great discomfort to the team and to the organization as a whole. The very fact that he gets business to the organization and performs well creates shudders in the minds of the seniors to take stern steps, because losing a performer would amount to a great loss to the organization. The dilemma so caused, is creating problems for the entire set of people who work in and around Andy.
The ultimate question of the case comes as a situation which is faced in every facet of life. The fact that we all have faced bullying characters undermines the ideal nature of the case and adds a realistic punch to the case for subsequent analysis and hence questions our abilities as managers in every aspect of life in general.
As mentioned in the case “Sometimes an employee can be nasty, bullying, or simply hard-hearted. What should you do, though, when that person also happens to be a top performer?” This question is directed towards all the organizations and is something one cannot run away
