Thesis Statement: Today I would like to take a look at possibly the most famous German athlete of all time. We will look at his basketball background, his career in the NBA, then finally the influence he has on basketball in Germany.
I. Introduction:
A. Who is the greatest basketball player of all time? I just asked that question to a class full of American students. Perhaps I ask to a class full of German students, I can almost guarantee it would be an anonomous “Dirk Nowitzki”.

C. My love for basketball only lets me respect Dirk and led me to research and learn more than I already know about this great player. Hopefully you will see all he has done for the game of basketball and his country,
II. Body:
A. Dirks Background
A.1. Dirk was born on June 19th, 1978 in Wurzburg, Germany.
A.2. He came from a very athletic family, his mother was a member of the women’s national basketball team and his father was an international handball player.
A.3. Dirk didn’t start shooting hoops until he was 13 but by the time he was 16, he was nearly 7ft tall and had developed into a strong all around basketball player. Bill Walton said after watching Dirk play as a young teen, “Nowitzki is the most unique player I have ever seen. No one comes close.”
A.3.a. Dirk was named German Basketballer of the year in 1998 at the age of 20.

B.1. Dirk played basketball in Germany from 1997 to 1999 when he was drafted to the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round and 9th overall. Later the same night he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks
B.1.a. He immediately turned the Mavericks into one of the more famous teams world wide. He was Germanys golden boy and truthfully represented all of Europe.
B.1.b. Dallas welcomed him with open arms. They tried their best to make him feel comfortable and at home but Dirk still had too much love for his country, he traveled home every
