Scott-Clayton makes many valid points here. The cost to attend college in terms of monetary value is outrageous. On average, 66% of college students graduate with debt from student loans. For many people repaying these loans will take all their life. There is also the possibility the college students could run out of money before completing college and must drop out. This is just monetary costs but as stated there are also psychological…
Student loans are a savior and a demon put together into one by the government. On one side student loans have numerous amounts of pros that shine a golden light on the loans making them look as if they are a savior to humanity. Some of these prospects include the hassle free process it takes to actually get a student loan, the boost of your credit score if you can pay it off in the allotted time, and they open up the opportunity for anyone to go to college. On the other side of the spectrum student loans are horrible plagues on society. The student loans can be bad in the cases of putting the person in extreme debt, ruining their credit if the person cannot pay, and even ruining the person’s mental health.…
Before my student loans become mature I will gather, record and transfer essential business information from those agreements to online documents and I will also scan all of my financial documents, addresses and telephone numbers into electronic business folders. In addition to this, I will also retain copies of my student loan prepayment coupons in electronic business files and all of my financial institution documents in my google drive account. These business facts assists me with retaining my financial information in convenient locations and it assists me with quickly accessing, managing and reviewing agreements. Retaining my financial information in online business documents, folders, files and cloud storage services will also assist me…
Not all students should go to college because college can often cost more than it is worth. College tuition has risen at a significantly higher rate than inflation in the previous generation. With student loan debt having passed one trillion dollars recently, one must ask…
According to Al Dunning in "Christian Science Monitor New Service", many good colleges are starting to lose a lot of money. "Most colleges and universities simply cannot afford it" (Dunning 1). Making scholarships means needing more workers, which means money is going and soon to be gone (Dunning 2). Scholarships should be rewarded to those who truly deserve it and are very talented. Many colleges well known for their athletic department may not be available to the younger generations due to all the money being spent earlier in the years. What if one of those people was you? I love to play soccer, and I plan on playing in college. But if many of the colleges are not available anymore, I have one less thing that I would love to be doing. I could have the possibility of doing what I hate for the rest of my life. Another reason, mentioned by Al Dunning as well, colleges are going broke is due to a notion proposed during the NCAA convention. The notion says to pay the athletes so that they would "suit up" and be suitable for more stuff (Dunning 1). If only the students that showed great potential were paid, much money would be saved. Clearly, increasing salaries are affecting many…
From personal experiences, many people can concur that colleges is expensive and even after earning a degree can leave a person in debt for a long period of time. Although, financial aid such as grants, loans and scholarships are given to those; many of which, doesn’t apply to everyone. Most of the time, people with unfortunate backgrounds such as low income students have their community college pay off, but a handful of people don’t…
Put yourself in the shoes of a twenty three year old. They have just graduated with their bachelor's degree. They do not have to worry about school any longer, no longer have to attend classes, or worry about not remembering the answer to a question on an exam. However, their debt in student loans will follow them until they are in their mid fourties. They will not want to eat stably, purchase good clothes. They may miss electricity bills, or struggle to keep a cheap apartment as it is. They will struggle to survive, not to live, all because they need to get all of the debts that they are swimming in, paid as quickly as possible, just so that they can start living their life. While people may believe that this will cost society more money, when it comes to college level education, I believe that all tuition and fees should be covered by the government, all the way to a phd.…
After doing research and analyzing others opinions, I still believe that student athletes should not be paid on top of getting scholarships from schools. The idea of it may sound great but the negative impacts it brings is not worth it, therefore being a student athlete and getting scholarships should be a big enough incentive to work hard and educate yourself to get a better and high paying job than others. It makes students and athletes work harder for what they want in life. Student athletes lives should stay the way they are today and not be paid on the…
As proven above, college debt is an issue that should be discussed. Take the case of a student named Kelsey Griffith. She is a victim as well as many other students because in order to pay off her debt, she worked two jobs and is now giving up her apartment and going to start living with her parents according to the article “A Generation Hobbled by the Soaring Cost of College.”…
based on representative data, seriously underestimate how much student debt they have. A significant share of undergraduate students do not understand how much they are currently paying for college, what type of loans (subsidized or unsubsidized) they have accepted, the current interest rate connected to their loans, or how much debt they are taking on upon graduation. With the average college tuition cost rises yearly with more students accepting more loans then what are essentially necessary its only getting worse. It is reported that tuition and fees have climbed thirty-percent faster than health care costs and four times (about a three-hundred percent increase) the rate of inflation since 1980. Yet, the government continues to provide more than half of all federal student loans and receives on average very low repayment rates in return. The process to receive student loan money, from the initial application to the disbursements of the loan, is in nature quicker and much more simple then the application to attend college itself. Students incur debt up to three times the tuition rate owing back in excess the amount of receiving another bachelor’s…
College tuition debts burden graduates well into late life. Student loans can inhibit college graduates from starting the life they worked hard for. If the government paid for a college education, our country would be more educated and become more successful. Currently, scholarships give underprivileged students the opportunity that wealthy students currently have. In a metaphorical sense, education is priceless. College should be free because young students are affected by debt that affects as a whole.…
Student debt is becoming an increasing issue for many adults and young Americans. Over 1.3 trillion owe in student debt. Truth is, presidential hopefuls like Hillary, promise us a solution for student debt, but instead all they do is present students with these speeches containing false promises. As this problem continues to grow Americans may question if their college education was worth it. We are taught in high school that we are guaranteed to be successful by going to college and getting a degree, but most teachers fail to mention that not only are you not guaranteed work, but you also end up tremendously in debt due to student loans.…
This issue is very close to me because I am attending college, along with many of my friends and hearing about their struggles with paying for college is something I hear about often and is something I constantly think about. Some of my friend’s parents are paying for their education and this is a great help to the students but this causes a strain on the parents and can make them decide to pull money out of their retirement (carpenter).…
The Bank and colleges try furiously to lighten the load on student through Bank loans and Pell grants and these programs indeed make college more accessible to minorities but on the other hand they can offer detrimental results because there is always a constant pressure for you to pay back the loan and that can affect one’s academic performance. The last three years student debt has surpassed credit card and auto loans debt with an estimated 35 trillion dollars. College is like a politician, it shows off some good rhetoric promise but in the end shows no good results. Student’s labor for years…
In my opinion, I am able to see both sides of this issue extremely well because I am a student athlete myself. Although I am not a student-athlete in the NCAA, I am a member of the University of Windsor women’s soccer team and have to balance being enrolled as a full-time student and a full-time athlete. In Canada you never see full-ride scholarships leading to a free education and I think NCAA athletes are unaware how fortunate they are to not have to worry about future debt. A quote by John Smith states, “I think we have a responsibility as student athletes. For those who are on scholarship, it’s about you appreciating the fact that you are being rewarded”. During our time competing in youth sports we are oblivious to what the future has in store for us and we are playing to have fun, learn new skills, and be with friends.…
