Disadvantages of the Internet The internet has been the most phenomenal introduction in the world of communication in history. While with every single latest technology, the internet has its own disadvantages. Today the internet has become the most influential communication device for people around the globe. Some of the disadvantages of the internet are social disconnect, the security of children using the web, spamming and privacy. The internet has the possibility to imply damage such as emotional detachment, personal security and computer loss. Be knowledgeable of the decisions you make while you are online. “The internet’s breakthrough to mass popularity occurred in 1991 with the arrival of the World Wide Web. The Web was developed by Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist. The United States Department of Defense was concerned at the time about the possibility of devastating nuclear warfare. The internet began to take shape in the late 1960’s. It began investigating means of linking computer installations together so that their ability to communicate might withstand war” (“Internet” 350). Now people mostly meet on social networks and are getting more absorbed to the social media. The use of the internet for long periods of time can detach people from families and friends. Many people establish relationships on line but cyber friends cannot compensate the actual life socializing. Some people become addicted to the internet, and this is a problem because some people loose employment and experience conflict effects from overuse. The internet can damage social skills; people who rely primarily on the internet for resources and communication don’t speak to people in person as much, instead they email back and forth.
