Family training is where a relative or spouse would go up to the rehab therapy gym with the patient, observe their effort and progress in therapy, and learn different techniques to help the patient before being discharged. However, most families do not think it is necessary to participate in the family training that the rehab team recommends. On the other hand, there are family members that goes to family training consistently. In fact, the families that participate in those family training sessions, discover that their relatives are motivated and recovers a lot faster. As they recover faster, the patient can usually discharge home typically 2 or 3 days before the original scheduled discharged date. Sometimes we’ve found that the discharge plans even change. For example, the patient might be discharged home with home helpers coming in 24 hours 7 days a week. However, after completing a couple of family training sessions, relatives and the therapist have seen an improvement with the patient where home helpers would only need to come in 10 hours a day 7 days a week or sometimes less than that. After a close observation, patient families or spouse who participate in the family training session, the patient seems motivated and have a quicker outcome and tends to discharge
