Over the course of three lessons, students will experience all the steps of the songwriting process.
Lesson 1: They will read and discuss a child’s narrative and work as a group to write and edit lyrics to tell that child’s story.
Lesson 2: They will collectively discover and dictate the rhythm of the lyrics and improvise using this rhythm to experiment with different elements of the melodic contour.
Lesson 3: Finally they will share and make group musical decisions to create a final melody for their lyrics and perform their final product. In this cornerstone the teacher will be primarily facilitating the discussion so that all students’ voices are respectfully heard.
