In some ways he had common sense because he knew what he wanted and where he was going to go each day. For example, “He told Westerberg he planned on staying until April 15…”, which explains to the readers that McCandless had his things sorted out. Meanwhile, other readers have different perspectives on how McCandless had no common sense. As Krakauer quotes “he changed his name, gave the entire balance of twenty-four-thousand-dollar savings account to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet” and this example gives the audience time to believe that McCandless actually had no common sense. Chris made a good choice in donating his earnings to charity, but the part that makes no sense is that he burned the rest of him money. He could've gave that money away to someone in need, but instead decided to burn it. He had money, yet he wasn't wise enough to use it for certain needs.
