Discrimination In One Day At A Time (ODAT)

The human species is a very complex and diverse species that continuously adds a variety to itself, with such an abundance of variety and diversification it is easy for one to discriminate. Since the human species is so diverse the discrimination can take many forms such as; racism- discrimination of the race/color, sexism- discrimination based on ones sex, ageism- discrimination based on ones age, etc. A specific type of discrimination that I would like to talk about today is sexism and how by identifying as a particular sex can grant one privileges, while also granting disprivileges. Referring back to season one of One Day At a Time (ODAT,) episode 2 it is highlighted how just by being a particular sex allowed for more privileges/disprivileges
Another example is in the beginning of the episode Penelope proposed a new idea for the office, but it was shot down by her male coworker. Only later did that same male coworker propose the same idea and it was accepted. Simply because Penelope was a woman her ideas we not taken seriously and neither were her opinions. Another example of work discrimination due to sex was when Penelope found out that she was paid less then her male coworker who had the same position but worked there less. So just because Penelope was a woman and did not ask for higher pay, she was not given it when her male coworker was. Another possible type of discrimination that was depicted in this episode could have been related to race. I noticed that Penelope happens to be the only Hispanic worker there. So is it possible that the type of discrimination she was facing was racism? Or is it possible that it is a case of intersectionality, which is the idea that different types of discrimination can be compounded on top of each other. For instance, could it be that Penelope is receiving less pay not because she is Hispanic or female, but because the combination of her being a women and
