Social rights activist Bayard Rustin once said, “If we desire a society of peace, then we cannot achieve such a society through violence. If we desire a society without discrimination, then we must not discriminate against anyone in the process of building this society.” Discrimination is still a a problem in today’s society, yet there is little being done to stop it completely. Stopping stereotyping, socializing outside of your comfort zone, and no long prejudging others are three methods in which we can battle this bigotry. In order to prevent racism and other forms of discrimination, we should stop stereotyping people who we have never met. There are many ways we can put an end to stereotyping, one including stopping yourself when you start to think things like, “oh she’s ‘that’ kind of person,” and question why you just thought that. We all stereotype others, and just simply nipping the thoughts in the bud can create a huge …show more content…

Talking to someone of another religion and learning about certain holidays and special events is very effective. Being open to learning about other religions is truly helpful, and now there is little room for prejudice when commenting about said religion. I feel like it is important to educate yourself, or have someone teach you, about different cultures. Having a wider span of knowledge makes it hard to prejudge something that you have knowledge of. Additionally, socializing with people who were not raised around where you were born is also a wonderful method to avoid discrimination. Being in the company of those who were raised in a different part of the country, or even in a different country, is a way to be able to give correct information when speaking of something unfamiliar to you. When all is considered, it is obvious that socializing with people outside of your comfort zone is key when fighting against
