impact on the ways we treat those who we do not know. Furthermore, we can also stand up and call out unjustified comments when we are with friends. Even though it may not be best to criticize the person, but just simply say, “that’s not right to say something like that.” Just simple things like that can cause more of a difference than you may think. It is clear that there are many ways we can stop stereotyping in its tracks. Socializing outside of your comfort zone is also a extraordinary way to hinder injustices like discrimination.
Talking to someone of another religion and learning about certain holidays and special events is very effective. Being open to learning about other religions is truly helpful, and now there is little room for prejudice when commenting about said religion. I feel like it is important to educate yourself, or have someone teach you, about different cultures. Having a wider span of knowledge makes it hard to prejudge something that you have knowledge of. Additionally, socializing with people who were not raised around where you were born is also a wonderful method to avoid discrimination. Being in the company of those who were raised in a different part of the country, or even in a different country, is a way to be able to give correct information when speaking of something unfamiliar to you. When all is considered, it is obvious that socializing with people outside of your comfort zone is key when fighting against
discrimination. Prejudice also plays a significant role in how we discriminate against others. We, as humans are drawn to prejudge people who we have yet to become aquatinted with. One method that we can learn from is to correctly educate people around you about the effects of discrimination. It is important that other people know that discriminating against others is not an honorable thing to do. I personally do not like it when others feel the need to say negative things about someone they know little about; therefore, I try to gently tell them that what they are saying is wrong and try to explain to them why it is. Moreover, it is also an exceptional idea to invite friends with different cultures and traditions to come to understand some of yours. Letting others with different views get to know yours is a great way to enlighten people and allow them to understand why certain aspects of your life are what they are. In conclusion, prejudging those who we do not know is a pertinent problem regarding discrimination. If we want to live in a society where there is no longer any discrimination, we must change what we want to see. To prevent this hatred, we need to stop stereotyping people, socialize with different people, and avoid prejudging others. Knowing this information, we can now start battling the problem of intolerance and begin to make the world a better place.
