As a HIM professional data quality is very crucial within the health care industry. The HIM professional must provide accuracy when collecting patient data. Data Quality Management (DQM) is defined as the business processes that ensure the integrity of an organization's data during collection, application (including aggregation), warehousing, and analysis. AHIMA,(2012). While the health care industry still have a long road ahead in reaching their goal pertaining to the national health care data standards, there are necessary steps by providing
the effectiveness for data exchange and interoperability. AHIMA, (2012). The data that is measured by a mechanism assigns quantity to quality of care by comparing the criteria within the data collection. The main outcome of data quality management (DQM) entails the quality of health care data and the relevancy. AHIMA, (2012). DQM functions involve continuous quality improvement for data quality throughout the enterprise that includes all health care settings and include data application, collection, analysis, and warehousing. AHIMA, (2012). Within the health care industry the DQM skills and roles are very familiar to HIM professionals while data is shared and in various ways while providing data quality that is more effective. Accessibility: This characteristic is defined as data that can be an easy target when obtaining legal access that provides protection and control throughout the process.
Consistency: This characteristic is where health care data is dependable he extent to which the health care data are reliable when dealing with various data applications within the health care organization. Currency: This is where data is kept up to date and any data that is outdated is put in a current status.
