Discuss What Steps You Would Take To Securing The Scene
A security company phones your station with a report on a silent alarm in a store they monitor being triggered in the early afternoon. Moments later, a citizen calls to report a group of rowdy teenagers breaking bottles on the same street. Your dispatcher directs your patrol car (with yourself and a partner) to the store address. You discover the store was robbed and the clerk has been assaulted. Several refrigerator units in the store have been damaged. A trail of broken beer bottles leads away from the crime scene towards a small wooded area nearby. How would you and your partner collaborate to maintain the integrity of the crime scene? Discuss what steps you would take to secure the scene(s). What are your priorities in doing so and why?

The forms to sign would be entry logs, building/neighbor canvas logs and more. My partner and I would only allow essential personnel in the area have them sign the logs when they enter and leave the scene.

In my opinion, securing the scene needs to be done in a quick manner. In order to secure the crime scene, my partner and I would need to identify the boundaries of the scene which may include checking the area for additional evidence and checking for suspects and victims that may be hiding. After identifying the boundaries of the scene, I would need to set up crime scene tape and barriers to help prevent contamination and or theft of evidence also by doing this it provides safety for myself and other officers on scene.
What are your priorities in doing so and why?
The most important priority is solving the case. Some of my other priorities include identifying and catching the suspects, securing the scene, maintaining the integrity of the scene. Solving the case to me is most important because so we can seek justice for the victims and other people and more. It’s important to catch the suspects so we can solve the crime and seek justice.
