Introduction For this assignment we were asked to discuss the impact of Dr. Zimbardo’s study on social psychology. In this paper I will include the following information that I gather from the required video; the value of the study in relation to social psychology, the relevance of the study in relation to contemporary world issues, the value of the study in relation to humanity as a whole, the problems and ethical concerns the study created, and the current safeguards in place to reduce the likelihood of ethical concerns arising in research studies. I have heard of this study before this class and feel that it is a hard study to analyze.

The participants were all male college students. I feel that this study is a part of social psychology because the situation that they were put was a social situation that for some of them was extremely stressful which is why the study only lasted five days instead of two weeks. I feel that this study was very wrong to do the way Zimbardo did it for example having the prisoner participants should not have been brought in the way they were. To me this study is a social study but not a good social study because if I was a prisoner participant I would have post traumatic stress after the study was …show more content…
The biggest reason is because the study that was done was social and put people thought the worse possible situation. When I first heard of this study I felt it was wrong in certain ways because of how things were done. I personally was not surprise that the study was cut short because the participants that were prisoners became too stress out because of how they were being treated by the and caused issues of anxiety and post traumatic stress. When I was younger I actually spent a little time in jail and it was hard on me and I still have issues from the experience today.
Current Safeguards The current safeguards in place to reduce the likelihood of ethical concerns arising in research studies are the code of ethics. The code of ethics tells researcher what they can and cannot do to their patients along with what studies are acceptable to even do on people. I feel that if this study was done now the current safeguards would not allow certain parts of the study to happen so if it was redone it needs to be changed in certain aspects.
