Personal stories are important because they allow us to revel in our common humanity from an entirely unique perspective - the point of view of the individual storyteller.
3. What is the function of the phrase “from that day on...” in creating a story”
Sayings like “from that day on... is an easy way to move from an experience, then add what changed as a result of the experience. Other phrases include “after that I never...”, “After that I always...” and “that experience taught me a big lesson”.
7. What is the storytellers primary concern when considering whether to alter the “facts” of a story? The obligation of the story teller is to tell the best story possible. When telling personal content it’s important to be ready to tell it, as when it comes to personal stories secrets come out so you have to be prepare for it, it doesn’t have to be your darkest secret but it’s still something most people don’t know.
9. Why must the emotion in a story be resolved before it is told?
Stories are meant to convey and evoke images and emotions. Personal stories tend to bring emotions especially if they’re sad so it’s important to be able to tell the story without the teller being distracted.
