The definition of being a teacher is of wide scope, in that there are a number of different ways to describe the profession. Teaching is of variety of both craft and intellectual endeavour. In order to be a successful teacher there is a requirement of not just understanding of current educational theories but also an awareness of how these particular theories aid and shape the work we do with our learners within the classroom environment. Kidd and Czerniawski (2010). The aim of this assignment is to examine the roles of a teacher, the responsibilities being a teacher holds and finally the relationships required to teach in the lifelong learning sector. In order to complete this successfully Gravells (2012) teaching cycle model will be reviewed with reference to the points previously mentioned.…
Most teachers leave education within the first 5 years for an array of reasons. One of the common reasons seems to be the isolation of a new teacher as well as the feeling of being overwhelmed with so many responsibilities and minimum guidance being offered to the new teacher, this according to Stephen Williams, who wrote the grant proposal for the first alternate route program and Karen Feldcamp who has been an Alternate Route instructor for over 7 years.…
I always wanted to choose my future career in teaching as I consider that education is perhaps the most important function performed in our culture, I also think that the teacher is doing honourable job as he is the main part of the educational process and he is the person who makes the difference.…
Although Huberman’s seminal work on teachers’ life cycles is very influential and expands teachers’ professional development throughout the course of a career, his framework only suggests career cycle trajectories, with varying needs at different stages. They also remind us that the sequence and timing of these stages may be variant, uniquely individual, and recursive and spiraling rather than…
All of the schools in this country are facing a serious problem. Every day more and more teachers are leaving the profession. Why are these teachers leaving? Well the primary reasons are the poor working conditions and low salaries. "Twenty percent of teachers say that unsatisfactory working conditions keep them from wanting to stay in the profession. In addition, thirty-seven percent who do not plan to teach until retirement blame low pay for their decision to quit teaching."…
* Older people will withdraw from social contact with others * Disengage because of reduced physical health and loss of social activities * Cummings (1975) argued that older people would experience a reduction in social contact as they grow older and becoming increasingly ‘individual’ * ‘disengaging is a natural part of aging’ * Everyone expects death, and one's abilities will likely deteriorate over time. As a result, every person will lose ties to others in his or her society. * "aging is an inevitable, mutual withdrawal or disengagement, resulting in decreased interaction between theaging person and others in the social system he belongs to."Embardos disagreement.. * Said theory was discredited for many reasons * Argues that majority of older people remain socially involved with family and friends * Maybe choose to spend more time with people they are close to rather than seeking new friends * Current data from the office for national statistics supports the view that a majority of older people enjoy social networks * if people only interact with close friends does this mean they are disengaged?…

According to Lange and Grossman, sociological theories are ways to define adult’s ability to adapt on changing roles, relationships, and status within a culture or society (Mauk, 2010, pp. 51). Looking at teachers from my point of view. When I look at the teacher survival skill video, I realized that teachers have to work hard just to survive as a teacher for the first year. The first year can be a challenge for the teachers and the students.…
Erik Erikson, who took a special interest in this final stage of life, concluded that the primary psychosocial task of late adulthood (65 and beyond) is to maintain ego integrity (holding on to one's sense of wholeness), while avoiding despair (fearing there is too little time to begin a new life course). Those who succeed at this final task also develop wisdom, which includes accepting without major regrets the life that one has lived, as well as the inescapability of death. However, even older adults who achieve a high degree of integrity may feel some despair at this stage as they contemplate their past. No one makes it through life without wondering if another path may have been happier and more productive.…

While closely examining the components of my career, focusing on what I found most rewarding, considering the parts that I least enjoyed, and bearing in mind what was missing, I concluded, I wanted to change careers and enter the teaching profession. Despite, the difficulties associated with this transition considering my obligations, responsibilities, and priorities at that time in my life, I began my journey of what felt like a thousand miles with a first step. The top priority in my life has always been my family. This includes my spouse, children, sibling, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Other priorities in my life include helping others, exploring the world, and an addiction to learning. Due to consideration of all these priorities, the path I chose to take was a long, slow, but steady trek. Even though, unplanned and unexpected events in my life caused my journey to take longer than originally anticipated, I have not given up; my journey has been delayed, but it has not been…
