Disney Dreamers Academy: A Character Analysis
After graduating from high school, I plan to complete my secondary education in music production and in acting. I hope to leave a mark anywhere that I go. My strengths are that I analyze situations well, am great at brainstorming, and I go with the best ideas. One of my weaknesses is that when I am in a situation where I don't fit in well, I become less socially interactive. Another weakness of mine is that I am opinionated; I love a good debate and I tend to debate over trivial topics. Disney Dreamers Academy can give me the tools necessary for professional development by helping me with communication skills, networking, branding, and achieving

I decided to write my evaluation essay based on “Little Girls or Little Women? The Disney Princess Effect” (Chapter 23) written by Stephanie Hanes. I looked through most of the essays from the textbook and this really spoke to me. I used to enjoy watching K-pop music videos with my 9-year-old sister but ever since she obsessively desired to dress like the female K-pop stars and to have a body like them, I stopped showing her those kinds of videos. It must have been very stressful to my mom because my sister would no longer wear skirts that are “not short enough” and follow celebrities’ diet meal plans when she was supposed to get well nourished. It took me long enough to realize that I was exposing her to the sexualized media environment when…

When you think about what you want for your future is there someone you look up to for inspiration? For me this person is Lin Manuel Miranda. Lin is a triple threat; playwright, singer, and actor which are all things I aspire to be. He proved that no matter where you’re from, if you work your hardest you can achieve great things. From a young age Lin’s parents encouraged him to start piano and theatre, which eventually lead to his starts on Broadway and Disney.…

The fictional character I chose to diagnose is Donkey from Shrek. Donkey is a hyperactive, talkative, funny and sensitive donkey with buckteeth. He enjoys singing, senseless chatter and usually speaks Ebonics. He also proves to be rather annoying to those around him. Donkey has a sweet tooth as well. He enjoys parfait, cake and other pastries of the sort. Some of Donkey's quirks include acrophobia, which is a fear of heights. He is also colorblind and suffers from hypochondria; this is a fear of illness. Donkey is impatient and has a short attention span too.…

I do agree that Disney does follow a lot of the Gender stereotypes. In Disney, Women have to be really skinny and white to be beautiful, which is not true they focus on outer beauty and not inner beauty. They are teaching little girls beauty is being white and skinny that is resulting in an image and standards set for girls. I totally disagree with that and think Beauty should vary and not be just be white and skinny. In "The little Mermaid" many stereotypes are involved involving Ariel and her prince. They teach the idea of changing who you are to be with someone and not following the idea of "being yourself". They teach the idea that women are submissive. I think symbolically it even goes deeper to say that women give up their voice to be…

    Disney Hero's Journey

In ancient Greece and Rome, a hero was set apart by their strength and their achievements, which far surpassed ordinary mortals. These heroes were demi-gods of half-mortal, half-divine percentage. In order to be seen as a true hero, he followed what they called the ‘hero pattern’, beginning with his origin, followed by his journey. His journey is then divided into 3 distinct parts; separation or departure, penetration of the power source, and finally the return or reintegration. Today, we don’t have such high expectations. Our heroes don’t have to follow any extensive ‘hero pattern’, as long as he is simply a man of perfection; courageous, intelligent, selfless, handsome, etc. When comparing the stories of our Greek heroes traditionally versus…

Although I can’t answer all the questions about how I’ll do it, I’m certain that I want to make a difference in the world. Barnard’s atmosphere and its joint theater program are the main factors that have influenced me to apply. Academically, Barnard is known for its intimate learning environment. I’ve spent my entire life going from one close-knit group to the next. Whether it was Taekwondo, Dance, Theater, or The Commonwealth Governor’s School, each of those groups were empowering, nurturing, and noble in their own individual ways. Barnard embodies all of those qualities, which is what I find attractive. Also, the joint-program for theater really speaks to me because it’s my personal belief that collaborative endeavors create true art. It’s true art that touches the lives of those who work on it and those who see it.…

I want to challenge my fears of social interaction with the burgeoning environment of college. The close-knit community melded within the honors dorms will force me to crack open my shell. In order to thrive, I must embrace my independence; avoiding thoughts of self-doubt or distrust. My Grandmother has always told me that my professional goals can only be reached with a procurement of the self. An undeveloped sense of self can hinder one's abilities to look towards the future. I aim to develop the aspects of my personality that I find the most advantageous, such as my creativity, my compassion, my strength, and my determination. The honors college will become the catalyst in my journey towards self-confidence, independence, and the embracement of my own creativity within the field I…

Who were the people that made the harsh fairy tales that most haven't heard the original of? The names most have heard of are the Grimm brothers (Wilhelm and Jacob). The brothers made stories that were adapted and restored by Disney. One in particular is “rapunzel”.We’ve all heard of the basic “Rapunzel” or the twist “Tangled” animated by Disney, but have we heard of the true story written by the Grimm brothers? The real question asked after reading the story is if the they pushed the limits with what they were teaching the tot. Youngsters were showed that the basic corner was taken to extremes.…

Growing up in a family with five other kids taught me to be independent and hard-working, but I also developed matronly qualities from looking after my younger siblings when my mom wasn’t home. Throughout my high school years, my personality had led me to be the mediator when my friends argued, the advisor when they had no clue what to do, and the councilor when they had problems they couldn’t talk to anyone else about. While it never occurred to me before, I recently realized that these traits will take me far in life.…

As a young child, I was different than other children. I talked to my mother, but was not able to talk or communicate with teachers, friends or strangers. By first grade I was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Because I was unable to communicate and I also had sensory and other issues related to my ASD I was placed in a special education school. The small class size allowed me to learn, but I was not progressing with my social and communication skills. My mother recognized that I needed opportunities beyond traditional speech therapy and enrolled me in acting and music classes and took me often to the theater. I enjoyed the classes and found that I loved music and arts. My father is musician, so in addition to my classes,…

A hero is a very popular title for those who rescue or save others so to speak. What most people do not know is that there is a way to determine whether characters are true heroes or not and that is through “A Guide to Joseph Cambell’s The Hero with a Thousand Faces” (Vogler). Christopher Vogler lays out twelve stages of a hero’s journey, which, if a hero completes them all, then he/she successfully fulfills the archetype and in this instance, Theseus from “Theseus” and Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” do. In “The Little Mermaid”, Ariel goes on a journey in which she finds true love and completes numerous obstacles while doing so, and in “Theseus”, Theseus travels throughout the Greek region and in turn, saves the woman from being killed by…
