Contents: This project should inform the reader to the possible benefits of preventing fraudulent uses with the EBT program. This policy would help the state’s economy by saving tax dollars that is pumped into the farm bill and is a large part of Florida’s budget. The EBT program is designed to help low income families ensure they have the proper nutrition and it allows for the saved money from food expenses to be used in other areas of the family’s budget and allows the family the opportunity to better their lifestyle; in many cases prevent them from becoming homeless.
Topic Explanation: By reducing fraudulent activities involving the EBT program the state of Florida can not only save money but eventually create a better society. Fraud is a criminal activity and the cases where children are involved they usually eventually see their parents or parent conducting this activity and no longer see it as the crime that it is. These types of actions produce a new and larger generation that is aware of the possible ways to use the program for their own personal gain. Selling EBT/food stamps for a quarter to fifty cent for every dollar is not uncommon among the types of fraud. Drugs and alcohol addiction are often the cause for someone to sell their money for food and only receive half the amount back in cash. Another issue I have noticed in the past 4 years is the enormous amount of advertising used to get people to apply for EBT benefits which brings up another way to prevent fraudulent cases or use of benefits.
