Ideate of Distraction and Driving
Driving and texting is often influenced by the poor usage of social action in relationship, technology revolution, and social media. The usual method of preventing accidents, today, is “to put an end to our own distractions in the car by taking a pledge, that you are making a promise to help put an end to distracted driving”(VanWey), and the ban of usage of cellphone while driving. The best method to prevent accidents is to educate every driver in the country. It is very important to tell your story in order to help educate others about the importance of putting down distraction. Drivers do not know the consequences that comes after being distracted. They often like to show off, believe there is no chance of getting injured, and be in a rush. Texting and driving isn’t the main point of the problem, but it is actually being distracted in general. According to a report published by the NHTSA in September 2009, 5,870 people were killed and 515,000 people were injured due to distracted driving. What are the distractions? The distractions are texting, reading a map, applying makeup, surfing the web, watching videos, setting a GPS device, talking on a handheld cellphones, and eating and drinking. eating and drinking came out to be “the top list of distracting while driving of 86%”(CQPress). Even with the law and the pledge, it is almost inevitable to be not distracted and get into an accident.
In society and my best opinion to the solution should come from the technology itself, since “laws aren’t working, one thing that does have some potential is technology itself”(CurrentIssues).
In respond to this problem, many car companies have invented crash avoidance system, which prevents accident concerning drivers who are not paying attention to the road. The Volvo XC60 Midsize SUVs have been equipped with a system known as “City Safety”(CQPress). This system uses an infrared laser sensor built into the windshield to notice vehicles in measured moving, dense traffic, and mechanically applies brake when necessary. Later that year, the number of insurance claims filed under property damage was 27 percent less for the
Volvo.
What if the car has its on ability to drive itself through traffic, then it would be an amazing improvement in our society against distraction while driving. Not recently, Google has tested several cars which uses artificial intelligence software to drive through street and traffic. The software is gathered with information from “Google Street View”(CQPress) and the installation of car-mounted devices and cameras. Google officials strongly believe and are aware, that these forms of cars offer the possible prevention of accidents and improvement in traffic. With improvement in advanced technology, people will able to find comfort and ease in their daily routine.
