Concerted Cultivation is a process of engaging a child through organized activities and critical thinking, normally used by middle class families to prepare children for interactions within any given institution. Concerted Cultivation is easily critiqued citing it does not allow for a child to form their own schedule, and often the child is so involved in activities that they are disassociated with anyone not in their immediate family, it creates unhealthy competition between siblings, and often times forces children to focus more on activities and less on academics. I could incorporate some of the suggestions given to me by previewing my text. This could help tremendously because it helps you to get a view of what it is you are about to read and helps with recognizing things you already know. Another strategy is marking my textbook. Putting learning into perspective, “Fitts and Posner Theory” will help explain three basic stages of learning; verbal-cognitive, motor-associative, and autonomous. Verbal-cognitive is the earliest stage of learning. Characteristics of the novice stage include: high concentration during movement, fatigue which reduces degrees of freedom and performance, the learner needs feedback and correction, and verbal cues are often necessary for learning. The second stage of learning, motor-associative, is where performance is most improved. Characteristics of this stage include: feedback is acknowledged, but cannot be physically corrected, fundamental movements are established, degrees of freedom are increased, and diversification of skill is completed to improve learning. Every course is a different learning style, using a variety of different styles that apply help retain the concept of the material. By using visual images and pictures help retain some difficult task in mathematics. When things do not require a lot of concentration, I use the aural method, allowing music to guide me in the communication process. The Aural method usually happens late night after a difficult day. A student must be able to recognize when the time they are using is wasted or productive. When an individual acquires this skill, the wasted time can be put to further the individual 's critical thinking development. "Strategy #2: A Problem A Day" a student must pick a problem that can be thought out thoroughly each day (Paul and Elder, 2000, p.3). In order to fully comprehend the information learned, practicing and reviewing is crucial. By practicing and reviewing course content, the success of understanding the information will be within arm’s reach. Being able to understand the information will be useful when writing tests or quizzes by allowing memorization of the content. Repeating words or sentences from lessons or homework, is one way to move information from short term to long term memory. As well redoing math problems or homework, which is a great way to better recognize how something is done, or should be done after getting the wrong answer. In addition reviewing notes or homework with a buddy can improve the knowledge of the subject, by having a buddy show the correct answer to the questions or notes that were wrong. Finally the last way of being able to fully understand what has been taught is by reducing the amount of notes taken. Decreasing the size of notes taken can help long term memory skills by reviewing less, and giving the most important information needed.
