Divergent, By Veronica Roth
The novel, Divergent, by Veronica Roth, takes place in Chicago where society is divided into five factions. Candor, the honest, Abnegation, the selfless, Dauntless, the brave, Amity, the peaceful, and Erudite, the intelligent. A girl named Beatrice Prior, also known as, Tris is often overshadowed by her brother Caleb’s apparent selflessness, she was pondering over what she wants. She knew she was selfish and she loved being selfish. She wasn’t selfless like an Abnegation should be. She watches the Dauntless jump off the trains, carefree and she always wonders where they are headed. She has to make a choice between staying with her family, and being who she thinks she really is. From being an Abnegation, to holding the virtue of being brave, …show more content…
Tris then gets a tattoo on her collarbone of three ravens, one for each member of her family. This goes for show that she still feels strong ties to the family she left behind. Although still figuring out who she really is, she portrays a sense of her attributes throughout her journey without realization. She’s very strong willed and brave. For one, one of her friends named Al, had to stand in front of a target and get knives thrown at him without flinching. Tris, sticking up for her friend, tells Eric, the Dauntless leader, that “any idiot can stand in front of a target” making Tris stand in front of the target instead of Al. She jumps off roofs, trains, and fights for the one’s most dear to her. She was brave not because she saves the ones dearest to her, or does bravery acts, but due to the fact that she was determined; she does things without hesitation and without appearing to consider another option. The best characteristic of Tris Prior is the way that she is unique. She can't be controlled by the powers and government that are attempting to control her reality. She can't be controlled. All the more critically, she declines to be sorted or put into a crate marked with a solitary quality or attribute. She strives to have a bit of all the class qualities and identity attributes. Honest, brave, intelligent, peaceful, selfless. She's different. She acknowledges later on that keeping in mind the end goal to be overcome you must be noble, and so as to be caring you must be overcome. Tris battles for opportunity and can change the destiny of numerous due to her unique character. These parts of Tris' identity help to make a dynamic, alluring character. Not just is she the primary character of Divergent, additionally a spellbinding courageous woman that any bookworm couldn't avoid
