Diversity In Our Society Essay
The world has dramatically revolutionized over the past centuries. Nowadays, people have different beliefs and traditions. As a result, the world is now full of human diversity in contrast to how it was before. Back in the 18th century, countries and continents were fully segregated. It was unusual to see a person with different nationality or cultural traits in a different country in comparison to the 21st century. Thus, in today’s society we have people of different races, countries, and religions. It’s a social change that has occurred worldwide due the increase of human migration into different countries. This social change, however, has caused a negative impact on the community itself; hence, being different has become a target for criticism. Seeing such diversity in our society makes it easy for one to judge others based on their religion, their nationality, and the color of their skin; however, people should not be judged by their physical appearance, their personal …show more content…
Even though every human being is different in one way or another, we’re all made equally and should be treated the same. Viewing people based on their race or ethnicity can only cause negative effects on society; thus, a person’s opinions about a particular racial group will only encourage negative stereotypes and dislike from others. Stereotypes, are in a way, a misperception or a bad idea of someone or something based on incorrect judgment. Particularly, when speaking about race there are a lot of negative stereotypes that are based on an individual’s skin color. African Americans, for example, are often seen as delinquents based on black stereotypes. In an ideal world, humanity would understand that all mankind is created equally; that the underlying truth of each of us is goodness, and that through awareness, conscious choice and the willingness to create positive change, we could live in a world where diversity is celebrated. We would leave behind the substantial racist and oppressing patterns that exits in this world, specifically in the United States of America. It is said that the U.S. is a melting pot of cultures, and that we are a country of immigrants existing together as a new culture, living under the values of a democracy based on freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet this policy is completely disregarding…

1.1- Diversity means the difference between people and the values and beliefs that they have, there is lots of ways in which people differ, for example, ability, beliefs, race, religion, gender, culture, the differences in people are what makes an individual and as a care worker it is important to recognise these and respect their individuality to ensure that they feel valued and included, if I treated everyone the same or made assumptions or decisions for my service user’s or stereotyped people this would cause them to feel unvalued which would dent their self-esteem and more seriously would mean I was working in a discriminatory way and the service user would not have their needs met. It is very important to value diversity in individuals and work in ways that ensure that their needs, wishes and preferences are taken into account all of us as individuals have this right.…

Virtually every culture has some form of discrimination especially against those who are different. Discrimination still occurs around the world today. The wars in Iran, Iraq, and Partisan are perfect examples. Within every culture there are extremist groups that believe what they are doing is justified. Discrimination is defined as a negative behaviors or actions towards a group or individual. Most common types of discriminations are age, gender, race or ethnicity, disabilities, and religious beliefs. I focused on how different cultures treat individuals with disabilities and their families. Even today, many individuals with disabilities are shunned, isolated, abandoned, refused access to educational and health programs. Quality of life…

Looking at me you might wonder what I could possibly understand about diversity – middle class white male, college educated, married with two children, a boy and a girl. These broad generalizations describe me, but they do not define me; just as similar ones about others are equally uninformative. They note apparent features while failing to capture inherent uniqueness. To me, diversity encompasses respect and acceptance, concepts defined by actions taken to recognize and understand individuality, not simple toleration of obvious differences. Although I do not write articles or participate in protests demanding change, I quietly respect the dignity of individuals and value their perspectives. My service in the United States Army has profoundly shaped my attitudes and guided my actions supporting these beliefs.…

One thing all Americans have in common is diversity. Having diversity causes Americans to work together and form a bond and treat everyone as they would like to be treated. We also have our freedom in common. Everyone has rights of speech, religion, press, etc. so everyone can define who they are and who we will become. Everyone has different ideas as to what being an American means, but to me it means that we have individuality, that we take pride on our country, and that we can be opportunists.…

Coming to America from my native born country of Afghanistan was definitely a change to get a grasp of. Growing up here, diversity is very common. I believe United States is definitely a melting pot. We have people from all over the world settle here to create a better life. Growing up in the city of Saint Louis, I would say that diversity was a very common thing. I lived in a street where their were elderly American folks, African -Americans, Mexicans, and Bosnians. I was exposed to a diverse group of people at an early age. Low income communities such as the ones I have lived in tends to be the most diverse as oppose to living in Ladue where their the superior white race is the most common. Diversity is something that I have been comfortable with my whole life, being exposed to it as soon as I came to America definitely has shaped my mentality on this subject in a positive manner. During High school and my college life I have worked at various jobs such as Steak N’ Shake,…

“A life is not important except the impact it has on other lives.”(Robinson). If you have an impact on people’s lives, why make it a negative one. Judging people for their skin color, academic status, or anything like that is extremely disrespectful. Most of the time, people see right through the good qualities, and just focus on the bad ones. Diversity is everywhere, and it is constantly looked down on. The prejudices and stereotypes that come with it make that obvious, but when you think about it, diversity is something to celebrate about. If diversity didn’t exist in the world, then every part of life would be boring. Diversity is often misunderstood as a negative thing, but in reality, it is positive.…

Diversity in my opinion has many definitions but one true meaning. My meaning would be the vast variety or difference of something in a large group. The dictionary’s definition is “being diverse; difference” and also “A point or respect in which things differ... variety or multifamily”. The definition shows much more than people that are multi-cultural. When I think of multi-cultural I think of race. When I think of diversity I think of a difference. In my opinion those two words should have nothing in common, but to most people they do.…
