Diversity In Toronto

Toronto’s main competition for tourism and business within the United States includes Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia in the United States. Vancouver and Montreal provide the main competition within Canada. Chicago is more ethnically diverse and better globally connected which lends itself to being a better choice for international business needs. Its public transportation system is also cheaper and more efficient. Chicago has been very successful at this, and has a large draw for businesses and tourists alike. While Toronto frequently fails to overcome Chicago in these respects, it has the advantage in having a lower murder rate and generally being a safer city. Because of this, Toronto can concentrate its efforts on branding itself as a more peaceful city that is ultimately more family friendly to the average prospective visitor.
Boston has been similarly successful with international needs in a way that Toronto has not. It also has a stronger public transportation system and more airports for more increased efficiency with tourism traffic. Nevertheless, Toronto can focus on its strengths over Boston in having more international corporate headquarters already in place and generally having a higher quality of living, such as in having a smoking ban in public
Half of the population of Toronto was born outside of Canada proving it to be very ethnically diverse. Even given the fact that Toronto lies in a region where many citizens speak both English and French, 47% of city residents have a native language apart from these two (Toronto Backgrounder). Philadelphia’s Independence Hall is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which naturally draws tourism. But Toronto has more large sports facilities and arenas, perfect for sports fans both during the Olympics and for other sporting events that could be held outside of
