| WHY DIVORCE RATE IS GOING HIGH IN PRESENT TIMES IN SOCIETY? EXPLAIN IT IN THE LIGHT OF STRUCTURAL/FUNCTIONAL, CONFLICT AND SYMBOLIC INTERACTION THEORIES. |
The increasing divorces rates are pretty much the dominating trend in the current society who once used to be considered “family-oriented” and a flexible one. With the insertion of modernization, people’s picture of idealism is changing. What they view as perfect is far away from what they would have viewed in the past. Basically being modern now means staying independent and not relying on the other one.
STRUCTURAL/FUNCTIONAL THEORY
A few decades ago, this society was a complete system; all the members interconnected and working together as a whole towards the common goal. Each member would actually rely on the other to continue with the daily routine of life. Compromising and molding oneself in accordance with the requirements of the other was what they would do. Wives get separated because they can earn as much as their husbands. Perhaps even more. They can give good lives to their children with their father out of the picture. So the structural theory as stated above, is, outdated and does not apply mainly to this modern world. The families are not actually families now. Every member has found their own interest and their own means of living. So divorce is pretty much inevitable.
