*House Bill 1799, authored by Rep.Luz Ilagan of Gabriela Party-list, revives earlier initiatives to legalize divorce in the Philippines. Should the bill be ratified in the parliament, it would mean that the Philippines would be the only country (together with the Vatican City) to forbid divorce?
If you're a Catholic, If you fear God and his commands, there is no way that you will agree on divorce. Simple as it is. Especially here in the Philippines. Even if some pastor and theologians quantify it as a “necessary amputation”. People were given the so-called choice and chance to change while the fact is, it is where the so-called “rights” is abused. People use the rights and abuse because of being self-centered and selfish quest for happiness and bring them in the same situation again and again and again and again.
FIRST. Marriage is SACRED. It involves God. Yes, we have the freedom to try it but it is a lifetime comittment with the one you love with respect and seek their best. By the time you promised that person your perpetual love, you must not break it. And only God can break them not by a human law. As a ceremony, marriage celebrates the love and desire of two people to live together. As a contract, marriage carries with it responsibilities of both parties. Because entering marriage is voluntary, the decision whether to stay together or not should be taken by the individuals involved, not society, other people, or the Church.
Studies in the United States and other countries indicate that the majority of those who file for divorce are women. The major reasons cited are: unfaithfulness, physical and other forms of abuse, neglect and desertion, alcoholism, and drug abuse. If most of those who violate marriage contracts are men, why punish women for their irresponsibility?
