M/W/F Big things come in small packages; this is a very common used maxim. People use it to scribe what good things can come from, for instance I was one the smallest kids on my baseball team, but of the best players we had, this is a example of someone saying big things come in small packages. Another example can be like one of the best workers that you work with, everyone doubts, but when it comes down to it, he/she is the best you got. The last example I have is on your birthday, you may not have the biggest box in the room with your name, but the smallest present you get, can be the thing you wanted the most in your life. Being the smallest on the team, yet one of the better players, my coaches expected a lot out of me, always expecting me to make my team mentally prepared and make them pumped up for the game we love to play.

The short story “The Scarlet Ibis” by James Hurst and “The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe are two works of literature that support this quote. In both of these works, it is evident that the two main characters from both stories both have very tragic flaws. These make the story more interesting to read because after reading it reveals the true nature of mankind.…

An example of this is “All creatures would agree that it was better to be healthy then sick, vigorous than weak, well-fitted than ill-fitted…” this was said by Galton in his ways of making the world better with eugenics. The meaning behind this is why have everyone different in strength and intelligence when we could make everyone the same. “The proletariat will use its political supremacy to wrest, by degree, all capital from the bourgeoisie, to centralize…

People often ask me, “do you play basketball or volleyball? Because you’re really tall.” As a six-foot-tall girl, I find that people are disappointed when I tell them “no, not anymore.” I was always told by coaches and parents that “you have potential,” but basketball, much to my dad’s dismay, was not for me. I found that I had the potential to do something with my life, to be someone bigger than myself. My freshman and sophomore years, I did not want to be involved in my school. Rather I wanted to get in and get out and go to college. But all that changed when I decided I wanted to be a Link Crew Leader, at the time I did not know what it meant to be a link leader, I just knew I wanted to be one.…

In Antonio Porchia’s book of aphorisms, “Voices” he tells us, “He who tells the truth says almost nothing.” This expresses that someone who only needs a few words, often holds a great amount of wisdom. It only requires a few sentences, a couple words even, to convey an honest and relatable idea. Within “Voices”, he breaks away from the need to have pages and pages of words to tell a story and demonstrates that a single sentence can do wonders. Porchia thought that an individual could become wise and literary by constantly turning over thoughts and trivial phrases.…

This phrase can be translated meaningfully in my life in a number of ways. One experience, in particular, comes to mind; The way I fell in love. Falling in love at first sight tends to be regarded as a cliche way of thinking, but I truly believe that had I not been paying attention to my surroundings the day that I first met my current boyfriend, we may not be together today. I still reflect on the moment our eyes first met and am in awe of how far we have come in our relationship since that day.…

“A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss. That’s the trade-off. But I’ll take it all.’’ This quote means that the greater you love a person the harder the loss of that person is to you. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke relates to this quote in her book Inkheart in chapters 29 and 30. I agree with this quote because the quote could relate to you or someone else.…

It hit the heart like a truck. I was on the bench for most of the game. I felt like if I didn’t pick up my game, I wouldn’t get any playing time and that I’d be on that bench for as long as the season would go. I jumped the gun and thought coach didn’t believe in my skill set. Cheering on my team through the game was hard, because truly, I didn’t feel like I was a part of it. The same players would sit, and then get put in 3 minutes later, but me, I was never put in. This was an epiphanic moment for me, and I told myself that I was going to be a starter sooner or later, but it started with practice, motivation and dedication.…
