Hi Mr/Mrs Lewis …My name is (Your name) and I'm calling from The Developing world Charity. Do you have a couple of minutes? I will be very brief….

First of all I want to say thank you for the support you've given our work in the past…
I also want to let you know what we are up to at the moment.

Before I do, can I just ask… what was it that inspired you to support our work?
Do you know much about what we do?

Well we are very active in helping people in the developing world to access the means to work their way out of poverty…for instance providing tools, seeds, improving water supplies and educating rural communities in countries like Kenya in order to make their farming methods more sustainable…while enabling them to rise above subsistence level and eventually to become commercial farmers.

The work we are involved in is long term…we hope that by backing up these communities with education and the equipment they need eventually they will be able to support themselves and in fact prosper.

Obviously we make a commitment to the communities with which we work and that means we have to know what kind of projects our resources can sustain…At the moment we get a large number of donations on an ad hoc basis….and they are gratefully received, but, this type of funding makes it nearly impossible to plan ahead and budget effectively for our upcoming and ongoing work…and that's why I'm calling to ask if you can help us to sustain a more secure future by making a small regular gift through your bank…

A lot of people are managing to support us with a direct debit of £20 a month….Can you do this as well?

That's fine Mr/Mrs Lewis, I understand that an amount like that might not be possible but, it really isn't the amount so much as the regularity of the gift so perhaps an amount like £10 a month might be more suitable?

I do understand, but giving in this way really is the best way to support our vital work and even very small amounts, for instance, something like £3 to £5 a month could go a long way in the countries where we work…Could you consider an amount like that?
